Let's bring this high school retrospective over to the Kansas side.

I've been busy juggling multiple states as we count down the days to June 15th, the start of open recruitment for the Class of 2028. Most readers know my native stomping grounds are in Nebraska, but this season has brought an extraordinary opportunity to highlight some of the best prep stars of the Sunflower State. The Kansas crowd has been incredibly welcoming, and I'm so excited about what's coming soon on the site. Stay tuned.

For now, we're sticking with our coverage of rising juniors. My Nebraska coverage recently introduced a series highlighting some of the state's most statistically productive sophomores from last fall's high school season. This opens our coverage lens even more while allowing us to step back from the ongoing club campaign. Recruitable gems can come from any venue.

So, our journey to June 15th is about to include some glances in the rear-view mirror. Here are some college-ready gems who lit up the stat sheet last year--and continue to do so in 2026.

Kubik has been one of Kansas's most prominent 2028s, no matter which jersey she's wearing. We've documented her rise with Dynasty 16 Black, culminating in an early 16 Open berth and a runner-up finish at Kansas City's Show Me Qualifier. However, Kubik's lightning-quick arm and ball control skills have flourished beyond the club stage. She churned out 300 kills with Blue Valley West as a sophomore and helped the Jaguars win their first 6A title in five years. That's the kind of impact that should instantly translate to the next level.

Like Kubik, Miller has seen the highest levels of competition throughout the yearly club volleyball cycle. This left-side attacker is fresh off of several tremendous outings with PVA 16 Elite, one of Kansas's top Open challengers. Miller's range, power, and assertiveness paved the way to a top-five placement at the Show Me Qualifier. The same storyline has played out at Eudora High School, where Miller tallied a staggering 525 kills on a 0.294 clip last year. She's on pace to soar past 1,000 career kills with the Cardinals, but unfinished summer business remains at GJNC.

Numbers like these don't come around often. Criqui's 6.1 kills per set led the way for almost every Kansas athlete, regardless of class. This athletic pin hitter has the freedom to run her own routes in the front row and terminate from anywhere along the tape. Her multi-sport influence with Marais des Cygnes Valley is making waves, and she's getting it done with Midwest Juniors in the club campaign, too. Criqui's multi-faceted game is cemented through a colossal 4.8 digs per set and nearly 100 aces in the 2025 campaign. She does it all.

Lewis has starred at some of our Prep Dig Circuit events, where she connected with any hitter on her side of the net. That adaptability is the true sign of a college-ready setter, but some eye-popping numbers certainly don't hurt. Lewis delivered that as a sophomore, averaging 10.2 assists per set for a powerhouse Andover Central program. Taking the reins as an upperclassman can be daunting, but Lewis took command from her early freshman days. Elite reps are piling up, especially as Lewis navigates the Open circuit with Shockwave 16 Black.

St. James Academy added to the list of Kansas powerhouses turning to underclassman setters in 2025. Dorsey distributed a quick, efficient offense to the tune of 10.4 assists per set as a sophomore. Her ball control contributions persisted in the back row, where Dorsey's transition digs yielded out-of-system opportunities for the SJA offense. The narrative doesn't end there, as Dorsey brought her best to the new year with KC Power 16-2. We've harped on this team's Show Me championship in the 16 Liberty division, and Dorsey's steady hands were all over the late-season triumph.

Of course, we had to close out this feature in the back row. Lundy burst onto the Kansas prep scene with an impressive freshman season, but she upped those numbers a little further in Year 2. Her 5.2 digs per set were near the top of the state's sophomore leaderboards, but Lundy also provided the serve-receive stability that isn't measured in a standard box score. Her spring highlight film with MVP 16-1 reveals a calm, efficient libero who knows how to place the ball on her midline. Keep this Pittsburg native on your radar when navigating the wide expanse of Kansas's defensive stars.
