14U Setters Shine at USAV Junior Nationals

Most of these kids already are in high school. Their recruiting processes are underway in various stages. Now that we're at the end of the season, however, it's a good time to check in on the 14Us, many of whom will be freshmen in a few months.   I did just that last week at the USAV Junior National Tournament in Indianapolis. The age group impressed and foreshadowed what should be strong contributions to the prep scene in 2026 and beyond. It seemed fitting to highlight those student-athletes and a good idea to break them down positionally.   Here's a closer look at setters that performed well on the sport's biggest stage:    Jones' height and long arms make her look like a middle hitter until the ball is put in play. After that, the United floor leader settles in as a dynamic setter capable of impacting matches in multiple ways. Jones moves well, flowing with the action and getting to spots where she can set up the attack. It's a soft touch with precise placement. Jones sees the court well, threatening to end points with well-timed deliveries into the donut or heavy left-handed swings. She defends well at the net and is agile in serve-receive.     CIA 14s showed up at the 2026 USAV Junior Nationals with intention and left Indianapolis with their heads held high. Playing up an age group, Murch was a key reason why the Cedar Valley-based club finished fifth in the USA Division, deftly running the show just like her older sister does for the program's 16U squad. Brehanna reads the court really well and flashes a natural feel for the position. She keeps defenses honest by mixing up her sets and locating advantages for the attack. Murch is a technically sound volleyball player with advanced skills.     Griswold is at the center of a Select operation that won the Iowa Regional and took 12th in the 48-team National Division at USAV Nationals in Indianapolis. Her ability to hit her spots with sets consistently from points all around the court stood out. She's quick and effortlessly adjusts to pass location. Griswold communicates well with teammates and shares a close connection with attackers, understanding where each one can maximize the swing. Long arms and lateral quickness aid in defending at the net or ending points.     When I watched Six Pack 14s earlier in the week at the USAV Nationals, Walker shined when swinging from the opposite pin. While scouting them on the event's final day, she was competing as the starting setter working six rotations in a 6-2. Walker handled all of the setting responsibilities at a high level. She then looked sharp again attacking from the right side and throwing up an effective block. When she shifted to the back row, she held up well in serve-receive and defending against the opposing attack. Walker's wide range of skills make her a prospect to watch.     It was a memorable season for Adrenaline 14s. The Cedar Rapids-area club qualified in the American Division at the USAV Nationals and competed hard in Indianapolis. When I watched them, Klein stuck out as a valuable performer setting up the operation. With good height and long arms at the position, Klein is fully capable of impacting matches in multiple ways. Her extension helps consistently get the ball high into the attack zone. Quickness and agility allow for thenmoving into position to deliver sets no matter where the pass heads. Klein keeps her attackers engaged by spreading the ball around and putting them in advantageous positions.
