June came in like a lion and did not go out like a lamb. The month that brought us the first direct communication between the 2028 Class and college coaches resulted in a large swath of the group committing programs on the next level. While the frequency has slowed from the initial burst, student-athletes in the recruiting cycle continue to announce their future home. We've done our best to keep up.

Although a lot of talented kids are off the board, really good players remain available to colleges. Here's a closer look at some of them:

Goodell broke out on the prep scene last fall, playing an integral part in Humboldt's unprecedented run to the Class 3A state title match after an upset of top-ranked Western Christian. She completed her sophomore season leading the Wildcats with 307 kills (.333) and 81.0 blocks. The athletic and explosive two-way middle continued her rise playing up on a Six Pack 17U squad that reached the USAV National Tournament this year. Goodell improves each time I see her, sharpening her skills and increasing her feel for the game. As much progress as she's made in the last year, there's still a lot of growth potential here creating an attractive ceiling for colleges investing in development.

Suhr is one of the state's most improved middle blockers and players in Iowa's 2028 Class during the last year. She got the ball rolling on that progress as a Williamsburg sophomore, when she registered 225 kills (.264) and 63.0 blocks with 94 digs in 82 sets. Suhr continued her rise during this past club campaign with Rockets 16R. During scouting opportunities throughout the year, she impacted matches with a mighty swing, putting the ball down on a regular basis. Suhr is seeing the court more clearly these days, allowing to maximize power in getting through the opposing block or working around it. Long arms, a big vertical and keen timing lead to Suhr defending the net at a high level. Openings for opponents are limited. There's plenty of room for more growth here, which should make whichever college she attends very happy.

Messerly has witnessed a steady climb in her prospect status during the year courtesy of proving herself on big stages in prep and club volleyball. An exceptional athlete that qualified for the state track meet in the high jump this spring, Messerly played an important role in Dallas Center-Grimes reaching the Class 4A state semifinals last season. The same can be said about her contributions for an Iowa Premier outfit the qualified for the Open Division at USAV Nationals the last two years. Messerly brings big bounce off the court, rising up on her vertical and creating power in her swing. Her efficiency continues improving with more reps, a trend that seems likely given her natural ability and dedication to getting better. What makes Messerly even more attractive as a prospect is her proficiency in the back row.

Evans is a prospect currently producing at a high level while also packing significant potential for programs on the next level to develop and draw out of her. As a Prince of Peace sophomore last fall, she recorded 145 kills (.151), 46.0 blocks and 119 digs in 72 sets. I watched her compete for a formidable Iowa Select 16 Mizuno squad throughout this club campaign. Her height, long arms and agility lead to impactful results in the middle of the net. Evans rises well above it, creating power in her swing and showing the opposition an imposing block. She moves well laterally and has a good feel for match flow. There's plenty of room for Evans to add strength and become more physical while holding her athleticism. It's a significant ceiling.

Heuton served notice that she was a prospect of note with her performance in helping Kuemper Catholic reach the state semifinals last fall. She proved to be proficient and powerful at the pin. Heuton built on that progress this club season with SWI Third Degree, improving her efficiency at the pin. It's resulted from improved feel for the game through repetitions. Heuton keeps improving her attack locations by reading the defense and finding areas to expose. The power is increasing as is the patience to meet the set. Heuton's long arms and vertical leap make her a natural at blocking, and she's refining the techniques necessary for success there.
