Multi-Talented Players Gaining Ground in Kansas 2029 Rankings

This theme always finds a way to pop up during our rankings coverage.   Versatility is a game-changing asset at the prep level. Players are seldom tethered to one position while sharpening their skills and discovering the right on-court niche. Elite athletes know how to adapt.   These attributes are especially notable as we continue our discussion of the new Kansas 2029 rankings. We're addressing a group of rising sophomores with plenty of time left on the high school stage, so players are bound to flip the script a few times. Fortunately, the Heart of America Region looks to be in good hands with its do-everything stars.   We're bringing out one more wave of multi-talented standouts to conclude our post-release chatter. This was just the first of many updates, and we hope to have you around for the next overhaul.   On to the next one.    We're starting with a Derby gem who brings a full array of skills to the outside hitter spot. Splane used this year's club season to put her first-contact prowess on display with KNVBC 15 Showtime. She carried the contrasting jersey well and remained a stable passing anchor through the team's deep Show Me Qualifier run. However, like many of Kansas' top defenders, Splane may bring her talents to the front row on the high school side. She primarily locked down the middle-back area during her debut season with Derby. It's an homage to her potential as an outside hitter who can dominate around the dial, and we can't wait to see which sophomore storylines prevail.     Petermann is the kind of prototypical middle-opposite hybrid who can take over matches with her physicality. Her freshman tenure with Olathe North allowed her to oscillate from one role to the other depending on the rotation. All the high-level reps of Kansas' prep circuit prepared Petermann for her club journey with KC Power 15-2, a top contender in the Heart of America Region. Petermann's presence in the middle was particularly powerful, leading KC Power to a runner-up finish in Show Me's 15 USA division. Expect this rising star to post even bigger numbers as a sophomore, regardless of which side of the setter she finds herself.     Meinig's name was a common sight atop Kansas' freshman leaderboards, and that might be a reflection of her willingness to do absolutely everything. She exploded onto the scene with 230 kills for Paola High, which battled to an impressive 27-12 season. But the Panthers also got some stout defensive contributions from their first-year athlete. That was a good omen for Meinig's club season with KC Power 15-2, which leveraged her tremendous defensive instincts and stable platform. We couldn't help but get in another mention for this emergent club squad, especially with how prominent Meinig has been in the early 2029 hierarchy.     Find an athlete who can find any way possible to better the ball. That encapsulates Morris' influence with Dynasty 14 Black, which marched to the Open podium at last month's USAV Nationals. The 14 Black roster featured a fascinating medley of 2029s and 2030s, and Morris was a clear leader among the older crowd. Her best moments came while operating the offense out of the back row, where her quick feet and crisp hands kept Dynasty in a rhythm at GJNC. But Morris is also a lockdown defender who could make early backcourt contributions for Blue Valley Southwest. The Timberwolves will need a new wave of contributors after last year's 37-5 campaign, and Morris looks poised to fill multiple voids.     Manhattan Mayhem has not been afraid to move its top athletes around the age ladder to find the right combinations. Bruna is a perfect example, as she has thrust her versatility into the spotlight while competing with the club's top 16s group. This freshman has already established a foothold at Hanover High, producing over 200 digs as a freshman. Those defensive highlights set a strong precedent, but Bruna's quick right arm can be just as impactful. She's a confident, explosive transition attacker who frequently makes herself available as a backcourt option. Possibilities abound for Year 2 with the Wildcats.     Goebel's range at the net could apply to any position. She primarily operates in the middle, but she doesn't need to run in tandem with the setter to find an attacking window. In fact, this Bishop Carroll standout is at her best while working in the gap away from the setter. That distance can effectively turn her into a second outside hitter with enough length to score on slower tempos. Shockwave's top 15s group returned Goebel to her middle blocker roots, but don't discount her ability to change things up.
