5 PINs Reaching for the Stars: Illinois Stock Up Showcase

The most in-depth showcase this session brought us was the High Flyers. They did not make it easy for the scouts, coaches, instructors, or even the parents to keep an eye on any single athlete, let alone their own. Skills, power, intensity, it was all on display.    Jocelyn was a consistent force throughout the showcase. Showing off her quick snap, quick feet, high reach, and consistent edge. Getting on top of the ball and displaying ball control, along with spotting variety. Gameplay, she stepped up with big blocks, covering the back and showing versatility and relentlessness. Plays with the hunger and is backed with a strong arm.     During drills and positions, a few hitters, if not the group, were swinging for the fences. Almost competing to see who can break the sound barrier. Payton would have been at the top of the list and a finalist. Her swing and snap on the ball are elite; she gets on top of the ball and delivers a boom. She has the athleticism and versatility to consistently compete at the highest level.     Part of the strong-armed group, she may have won a power-hitting contest. Sophia is long, agile, and quick. Patient with her swing; obviously, she is aware of any ball handler she has, so she doesn't waste time or energy. Then she pounces and goes into an attack like no other, with a quick, hard snap that isn't predictable, adjusting to always set and defenders. Sophia is fun to watch.     Ramona is just determined from beginning to end. Laser-focused with a stellar awareness and understanding of the game. Great explosiveness and approach on the attack. Followed with a swing that can punch through any press, or she adjusts and pushes when needed. She is flexible in her game, a solid six-rotation player who covers the back row as well as any lib, with accurate passing and coverage.     Reagan was a joy to watch, receiving notes and nods from several coaches and instructors throughout the showcases. For various reasons, displaying a complete game, a true understanding, and being an overall package. Undersized as a hitter, sure. Limited, NO. She is athletic and crafty. Leaps to the ball and gets great height on the ball, and adjusts very well with an admirable swing.
