AZ Freshman Showcase: On the Radar

As we get to the end of the showcase articles, one piece from the Freshman Showcase that I was excited to write about has to do with some girls who might not be currently ranked, but are girls who are now on our radar after the great performance at our showcase. These girls came in a little unknown but left firmly on our radar as girls to watch over the next few months!   Excpect to see some of these names ranked the next time we do an updated ranking!    Lily had a great showcase and is someone who has a lot of potential in her game, however she is someone who can compete today at a high level. Offense is where Lily shined at the showcase as she was able to hit at a high level from multiple spots on the floor but really stood out on the right side. A natural lefty, Lily has a full range of shots from the right side as she can hit line, hard angle, and has some good off speed action as well. She does well with in system and out of system balls as well   She also adds some good blocking to her game as well, as she gets a lot of block touches and takes away a lot of space with how well she presses over the block. She moves very well laterally with her footwork and seems to see where the ball is going early and closes the block with her middles. Lily also adds value with how well she moves and transitions and adds in quality touches when she needs to play defense and dig a ball. She has all the tools to be a quality pin hitter, especially on the right side and is firmly on our radar as we head into the fall season!     Zoe is someone who has a lot of power to her game, and plays with a physical presence to her that most other 14 year olds don't have. She has a lot to like about her game, especially as she gets older she should develop into a really great player. On offense, power and pace really stand out for Zoe as she always takes big rips at the ball when she gets set. She does a great job exploding up on her approach and contacting the ball high and ripping through it. She has the power and pace to hit around and through most blocks. She has the pace to beat defenders to spots as well, with how well she hits the ball.   She has the ability and game to be a 6 rotational outside as well. She can pass, play defense, and contribute with a good serve as well. Her serving is another weapon for her to use, as she puts good speed on that and has great control to hit the spots she is looking for. Her movement in serve receive and defense is also great, as she takes great angles to the ball and contacts the ball in a great spot to keep her team in system. During game play and drills Zoe really showed how talented she is and why she needs to be on our radar as the year goes on!     I think out of all the players on this list today, Brynlee is the one who really stood out with her game play and top level ability that was showcased during drills. She did so many things to a high level and was constatnly showing up on all the coaches radars as a top performer and someone to watch. I can say she is the typical 6 roation outside hitter as she has great abliites in her passing, defense, hitting, and serving. She really didn't have a lot of holes in her game and can do all of that and to a high level.   Her court IQ really came through in terms of her offense, as she does a great job taking what the defense gives her but has the ability to hit through and tool blocks when they are set as well. She has great form to her offense and seems to always to score points regardless of the defense in front of her. She also does well in her movement to get her feet and body in a good position to pass a ball. Brynlee is someone who came to play at this showcase and is going to be a name to know in the coming months! For sure on our radar moving forward!     Hattie is a player whose stock really rose at this showcase and someone who is firmly on our radar moving forward. She is an athletic middle blocker who does an excellent job reading the court, identifying available space offensively, and taking away space defensively. At the net, she does a great job tracking hitters and recognizing whether they are attacking line or cross, allowing her to position herself effectively and take away those options. She also gets her hands over the net well and presses aggressively, making her a difficult blocker to attack against.   Offensively, Hattie brings a full range of shots but was especially effective running a 1 or quick out of the middle. In one-on-one situations, she was nearly unguardable, consistently scoring when given the opportunity. Her arm swing is extremely quick and produces a lot of pop, while her ability to recognize openings and use different angles makes her a versatile offensive threat. Hattie brings value on both sides of the net and her combination of athleticism, court awareness, blocking presence, and offensive efficiency made her one of the players who stood out most at the showcase and a name we will be watching closely moving forward.     Ryann looks like a star in the making to say the least with her performance at our showcase. She is a very big and athletic player who can do a lot in terms of her game play. For one she has very good control of her body and is able to use her athleticism to get great loads on her approaches, and high hands above the net for blocks. She is quick and moves well laterally to get to good positions in defense and on the block. She has some of the best footwork at the showcase which leads to a lot of great plays at the net with her swings and blocking.   Her offense is explosive to say the least as she reaches very high for a 14 year old and can really attack a ball with her arm swing. She has great pace to her swing when she attacks the ball and really has the full range of shots when she does. She hits well from both pins and can be someone counted on to a lot for her team. Her court IQ is off the charts as she seems to get her feet to the right spot to block constantly and can see the court and openings on offense as she is an effective scorer. Ryann is on our radar as someone to put in the rankings this next time around, as her all around game is very impressive!     Madison is a really athletic player and showed off her ability to be a future top level player at the showcase. I really like how Madison doesn't shy away from taking a big swing and isn't afraid of a block in front of her. She has a aggressive arm swing and really can hit around and through a block. She has a great arm swing, and really gets a lot of whip behind the ball when she hits it. She has a lot of potential in that regard, but also should a keen ability to find open spots on the floor. She should be a top level offensive player in the years to come.   As for other parts of her game, I will say she is an athlete and probably can compete at a high level in other sports if she wanted to. She has all the quick twitch muscles and lateral movement we look for in hitters and has a ton of explosiveness in her jump when she blocks or swings. She is someone who is now on our radar and as she continues to develop has the chance to be a big time player based on her current abilities. Madison really has a lot to like about her game, from her offense, to her blocking, to her explosive athletic ability... she is someone now on our radar and can't wait to see how good she gets in the coming months.     A lot to like about Gileany's game as she really came to play this showcase. One area that really stood out to me was how much power, pace she puts behind her serves and swings. Now.. a lot of girls will have pace and power but being able to control that pace is where she shines. Her serves were very aggressive during drills, and she continually was able to get passers to pass out of system balls or ace them. Having a top level serve as a pin hitter is a quality asset as she has another option to score when it is called upon.   She also has that same pace and power when she swings, and really gets a lot of force behind the ball to score points. During game play she made a lot of great shots and was able to score points from both in and out of system. She does really well in her technique and transition as she always gets deep and takes aggressive approaches to make quality swings. Gileany has the all around aspect to her game though, as she is a quality defender and passer, and was getting great touches throughout the showcase in all phases of the game. A player we need to know, and she is now on the radar moving forward!     Colbie was a player who did really well at the showcase and should be someone we need to know moving forward. For starters her offensive game is all around good, and she shows a great understanding of the court and to take what is open as she can hit a ball deep, cut it, or put a good tip in there. She has a quick and fast arm swing that aids in her ability to score and beat the block as well when it is in front of her. Her being able to score and earn points is a big plus to her game as she was highly effective throughout the showcase.   She also is an excellent blocker and seemed to do well taking on pin hitters and getting over the net to take away the angles they were going for. She got a lot of great touches during game play, on top of scoring some points for her team. She also is an excellent communicator and plays with a lot of energy and passion on the floor. She was working hard throughout the showcase and was next level with her hustle and effort. I love watching a kid work hard that has a ton of talent. She should be someone on our radar for this school season, and we are excited about her future moving forward.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The 2026 Summer Showcases were an incredible way to wrap up the club season, and we couldn't be more excited about the talent we saw on display. Thank you to every athlete, coach, and family who helped make these events such a success. The future of Arizona volleyball is incredibly bright, and we're grateful to have had the opportunity to watch so many players compete.   This is just the beginning.
