Top Setters at the AZ Sophomore ID Camp

I got to see plenty of great setters at our showcase! I will have to say the Sophomore setters might have taken the cake when it came to who was the best of all the groups. We had some familiar names do really well, and we had some new faces that really came to the showcase and showed us why we should know who they are. These setters are all names to know this fall and we can't wait to see them progress as the year goes on!    Grace was a lot of fun to watch play at our showcase as she has a lot of high level skills that really showed up during the event. Grace is a very agile and fast setter who does a great job always getting her hands to the ball to be able to set. She moves her body well enough to make hittable balls on tight balls or balls that aren't in system. She always seems to get her feet and hands on the ball in a way to deliver the ball and keep her team in system. Some of the best hands and setting form came from Grace this showcase, as she continually made great plays and hard plays look easy.   Grace also was a great defender at the showcase, and probably could dabble a little as a libero if she needed too. Her form as a defender was great and she showed great technique and instincts as a defender to always be in the right spot and read the hitters early enough to get great touches on the ball. However, as a setter she mad great tempo on her sets and always seemed to put the ball in a great location especially to her middles who feasted during game play. Overall, Grace is someone who really jumped out at the showcase as a great setter and should be on our radar moving forward!     Ahvah had a great showcase and really continue to show why she is one of the better setters in the class. She has a great set of hands, and can make every type of set and with pace/tempo. She does a great job placing the ball in a great position for her hitters to be able to take good swing, and she also even with bad passes, can make those in scoring chances for her teammates. My favorite aspects about her setting is how she can direct and run and offense with a variety of sets. She seems to understand the game in a way to give her team the best chance to score, and demonstrated that throughout the showcase.   Ahvah also is a great defender, and has a great serve as well. For a setter to be next level they have to be able to do 4 things, run a fast offense, great defense, good serving, and a high court IQ and Ahvah has all those parts. When she ends up digging a ball, she always puts the ball in a great spot for someone else to take the second contact and reads hitters well enough to pick up and get hands on tips. She has great reaction times to hitters and seems to get great touches in all aspects of defense. Overall she is a top level setter and really showed all those phases at our showcase.     Zoe is a setter who does a number of things well and seems to always do them to a high degree. One aspect about her that really looks good is her ability to play defense and always get touches on the ball each and every play. She isn't afraid to put her body on the line for a dig and isn't shying away from an open net as a defender. She is fearless and gets a ton of great touches on her defense. Her technique and form is great when it comes to her defense and she really gets great touches on all the different types of swing and tips hitters throw her way.   As for her setting, she has great tempo to the pins and really does it with ease. It shows the strength she has in her hands and the ability to push with just a flick. She had some of the best sets to the pins throughout the showcase and really ran her offense on the floor to a high level throughout the showcase. She also added some offensive flair to her game, and has good timely uses of her setter dumps to score when needed. Zoe really has the all around game we look for in setters, and this showcase really gave her a case that she is one of the best in her class.     Casey has a lot of tools we like to see as coaches when it comes to our setters. She is an athletic setter who jumps to set the ball, while showing a high IQ to spread the ball to all her hitters when the time calls for it. She isn't afraid to make any type of set and seems to know who is hot and who has the best match ups to score points. She can set any hitter from any location on the floor, and really can put the ball in great spots regardless of her body position and pass that she gets. Her strength in her hands and arms is really impressive when you watch her play the game.   A aspect about her game that stood out above some other setters was her use of her own offensive game. She had a lot of dumps throughout the showcase and was able to score or keep the defense out of system when she did dump. It just adds another layer to her game and shows her court IQ as she knew the exact moment to use the dump to score. That same IQ really showed up with her set distribution as well, she seemed to know the right hitter to set and when to set them. Casey has a lot of great skills to her game and came out this showcase and showed why she should be a name to know and one of the top setters in the class. We are excited to see what she can do this fall!     Anais has a lot of great tools that make her a highly effective setter. Watching her in drills setting, it was easy to see that she has great form that helps her be able to set all hitters from multiple locations on the floor. She seems to move very fast and is able to get in a good position to set her offense. She had strong hands and even uses those hands in defense when the times calls for it. Her footwork in setting and in defense was great to see, as her technique was flawless in her movement from setting to getting to base, and then in a great defensive position.   On top of being a athletic and fluid mover, she is also someone who can run a team and offense during game play. She plays with a lot of energy and was fun to watch be a cheerleader for her team and hyped them up. She was always communicating with her hitters and giving directions about what to run on offense. Another aspect about her game is that she runs great tempo on all her middle sets, anytime I saw her set a middle they were getting kills at a high rate, which was attributed to her and the placement she was giving them. I didn't know Anais before the showcase, but her play and effort during the showcase really demonstrated she should be a name on our radar!     Loved watching Juliana play at the showcase as she is a very athletic setter who moves well and can be a force at the net for any type of balls that may arise. She is a jump setter who really can take a ball tight to the net and get it with tempo to all her hitters. She seems to have great spatial awareness and can put the ball where she wants regardless of her body position and the type of pass she gets. Her out of system setting was next level and she seemed comfortable running the offense from even the 10 foot line.   When she is in system and setting the ball she uses her hands to set great balls across the net and in all locations. I love the tempo or her right side sets the most, as those hitters were always getting the ball in the right location each and every set. She also does a great job communicating with her hitters and taking feed back from them as to a set and height that they may need. Her defense and effort was also fantastic as she was never letting a ball fall and making great plays throughout the showcase but not just with her setting. She is a player I am going to need watch more as we head into school ball as she really came out as a top level setter at this showcase.     Madison is really on our radar after a great performance at the showcase, where she demonstrated some top end talent! One of my favorite aspects to her game is how well she makes a tough out of system pass into a great hitting option for her hitters. She has the unique ability to take tough balls and make them into great scoring chances for her team and can run even some tough passes into some fast sets to the pin. She didn't seem afraid to make any type of set to any hitter throughout game play which really shows how much she trust her form and technique to get the job done.   Another aspect to her game that really stood out was her ability to run her middles to a efficient rate. She wasn't afraid to run her middles or set them the ball when they were in system and made a number of great sets to them. She also showed a good serve that could be a good weapon when school season rolls around as it has a lot of life and movement to it. Overall, Madison really did well this showcase and has a lot of factors to her game that make her a great setter. She can run a fast offense, has great hands, can attack with her serve, and communicates super well. She is someone to keep an eye on this fall and someone who really came to play at the showcase.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The 2026 Summer Showcases were an incredible way to wrap up the club season, and we couldn't be more excited about the talent we saw on display.
