Freshman Showcase Setters Ready to Make Their Mark This Fall

The setter position comes with plenty of responsibility at any level, but stepping into a high school gym as a freshman and being asked to run an offense is an entirely different challenge. Setters are expected to communicate, make quick decisions, build trust with their hitters, and provide consistency—all while adjusting to the speed and physicality of the high school game.   At the Prep Dig Arizona Freshman Showcase, we saw a talented group of young setters who already possess many of those qualities. From impressive ball control and decision-making to athleticism, leadership, and the confidence to take command of the court, several athletes showed they're ready to take the next step.   As school season gets underway, we're excited to see how these young floor generals adjust to their new environments and the opportunities they're given. Some may be stepping into significant roles immediately, while others will spend the season learning, developing, and competing for their opportunity. Either way, these are Freshman Showcase setters we're excited to follow as they begin making their mark on the high school game this fall.    Greer was accurate, consistent, and brought great energy to the court throughout the entire showcase. Her ball placement immediately stood out, as she did an excellent job giving her hitters quality opportunities to score in a variety of situations. Even when the first contact wasn't perfect, Greer worked hard to get herself to the ball and create something hittable, showing the type of effort and composure you want to see from a setter.   She also did a great job distributing the offense and wasn't afraid to utilize every option available to her. Greer connected well with both her middles and pins, showing the ability to run different areas of the net while maintaining consistent location. As the showcase progressed, it became evident that she quickly earned the trust of the hitters around her, which is especially impressive in an environment where athletes have limited time to develop chemistry with one another.   Greer's impact extended beyond setting as well. She worked hard defensively, stayed engaged throughout rallies, and brought positive energy to the floor. Her willingness to compete for every ball, paired with her accuracy and ability to run a balanced offense, gives her a strong foundation as she enters the next stage of her career. We can't wait to continue following Greer and watching her grow within the game.     Charlize was easily one of the most impressive setters we watched throughout the showcase. Her consistency immediately stood out, but it was the deception within her setting game that really caught our attention. She does an excellent job maintaining a neutral body position, making it difficult for opposing blockers to anticipate where the ball is going. That ability allowed her to distribute the offense effectively and consistently put her hitters in competitive situations.   Her quickness was another major strength. Charlize moved extremely well to the ball and showed that she could create a hittable opportunity even when the first contact pulled her out of system. She competed to get underneath everything, stayed composed on difficult plays, and rarely allowed a less-than-perfect pass to prevent her team from generating offense. That ability to turn broken plays into legitimate scoring opportunities is an impressive quality for a young setter.   Perhaps most impressive was how quickly Charlize established connections with the hitters around her. Showcase environments don't provide much time for setters and attackers to develop chemistry, yet she quickly figured out what her hitters needed and earned their trust. That connection became especially evident during gameplay at the end of the showcase, where Charlize was a major piece of her team's success and did a great job keeping all of her offensive options involved.   With her consistency, deception, athleticism, and natural ability to run a floor, Charlize already possesses many of the qualities you want to see in the setter position. She's going to be an exciting young player to follow as she begins her high school career as a Crusader at NCS, and we're looking forward to watching her continue to develop.     Finnley Davis was a fantastic addition to our Freshman Showcase and brought so many of the qualities you want to see from a young setter. She was a consistent communicator throughout the day, played with all-out hustle, and brought a steady presence to the court regardless of what was happening around her. Her ability to remain composed when rallies became chaotic was one of the biggest things that stood out to us.   Finnley is also a defense-first setter, which added another layer to her impact. She worked hard to keep balls off the floor and consistently gave her libero and teammates quality out-of-system balls when she was forced to take first contact. Rather than simply keeping those plays alive, she showed the control to put her team in a position to still generate offense. That type of awareness and willingness to do the less glamorous work is incredibly valuable from the setter position.   Between her communication, defensive mentality, hustle, and composure, Finnley has a strong foundation to continue building upon as she enters the high school game. She showed many of the intangible qualities that are difficult to teach, and we're excited to continue following her development as she takes this next step in her volleyball career.     Rosalie Cardoso is a true competitor on the floor, and her presence was felt throughout the entire showcase. From the setter position, her jump-setting mechanics immediately stood out. She's technically sound, gets herself into a great position to deliver the ball, and consistently provides her hitters with accurate, hittable sets. She runs the floor with confidence and brings an energy to the position that helps keep everyone around her engaged.   Rosalie did a great job distributing the offense and showed the control needed to put her hitters in positions to be successful. Her ability to jump set also adds another layer to her game, allowing her to maintain tempo and keep opposing blockers guessing. She looked comfortable taking control of the offense and continued to compete regardless of the situation.   Her impact certainly wasn't limited to setting. Rosalie was fantastic defensively in the back row and showed an all-out mentality when pursuing the ball. There rarely seemed to be a ball too far away for her to at least get a touch on, and she consistently worked to extend rallies for her team. That effort and defensive mindset are huge assets from the setter position.   We also loved the way Rosalie interacted with the hitters around her. She celebrated their success, brought them energy after big plays, and showed the leadership qualities you want from someone running an offense. Between her technical setting ability, defensive effort, competitiveness, and positive presence, Rosalie has an exciting foundation to continue building upon. We look forward to following her development and watching her continue to grow with the game.     Rowyn Benavides is going to be a name to watch moving forward, and she made a great impression on us throughout the Freshman Showcase. She has a natural touch on the ball and showed impressive control with her delivery, but one of the things we appreciated most was her willingness to ask questions. Rowyn was intentional about figuring out what her hitters needed from her, seeking feedback and making adjustments to put the athletes around her in the best possible position to be successful.   She also tracks the pass extremely well and works hard to get herself into a quality setting position. Even when the first contact wasn't perfect, Rowyn showed the ability to move with the ball, stay composed, and create an offensive opportunity for her team. That combination of effort and awareness is an important foundation for a young setter as she continues learning how to manage an offense. We were especially impressed with her connection to the right side. Rowyn consistently delivered a hittable ball to that pin and showed a great feel for the location and tempo her right-side attackers needed. It was certainly one of the strengths of her game throughout the showcase and helped her keep the offense balanced rather than becoming overly reliant on one area of the net.   Beyond the technical pieces, Rowyn showed the curiosity and coachability that can take a young setter a long way. She's already thinking about how she can make the players around her better, which is such an important part of becoming a true floor general. We're excited to continue following Rowyn as she develops her game, builds confidence running an offense, and grows into the leadership responsibilities that come with the setter position.     Two words immediately come to mind when describing Navya Keerthi: hustle and defense. She possesses many of the qualities you want from a young setter—quick decision-making, athleticism, and the ability to create opportunities for her hitters—but it was the little things she consistently did throughout the showcase that really separated her.   Navya competed with an all-out mentality on every play. There were no excuses and very few balls she wasn't willing to pursue. Whether she was setting or simply being asked to defend, she completely embraced her role in right back and found ways to make an impact. She stayed disciplined defensively, worked hard to keep balls off the floor, and showed that she was willing to do whatever the team needed from her in that moment.   What we enjoyed most was that Navya never seemed to take a play off. She competed whether the ball was coming directly to her or she was responsible for doing the work that might not show up on a stat sheet. That defensive mindset, combined with her hustle, decision-making, and developing ability to run an offense, gives her a strong foundation as she enters the high school game. We're excited to continue following Navya and watching her grow into the floor general she's capable of becoming.     Sloan Lee has fantastic technique, and it was on full display throughout her time at the Freshman Showcase. She has incredibly clean hands and a natural touch on the ball that allows her to deliver a consistent, hittable set from a variety of situations. One of her biggest strengths is her ability to put up a quality high ball to the outside from virtually anywhere on the court. Even when she's pulled well off the net, Sloan has the strength and control to give her hitter a legitimate opportunity to score.   Her athleticism also became increasingly evident once gameplay began. Sloan moves well to the ball, works hard in transition, and does a great job getting herself into position to run the offense. She doesn't panic when a play gets out of system and instead relies on her technique to create something productive for her team.   In the front row, Sloan brings an aggressive mentality to the net as well. She isn't afraid to compete on tight passes and makes herself a presence when the ball is near the tape. That competitiveness, paired with her technical foundation, gives her the ability to impact rallies in more ways than simply delivering the second contact.   You can tell Sloan has spent a tremendous amount of time perfecting her craft. From her hand positioning and body control to the consistency of her ball delivery, there is an intentionality behind the way she plays the position. That technical foundation is a major reason she's already finding success on the floor, and as she continues to add to her game, we're excited to see how far it can take her.     Jocelyn Potter was incredibly impactful during her time at the Freshman Showcase. She may be smaller in stature, but she consistently makes big plays and finds ways to make her presence felt on the floor. From the moment she stepped into gameplay, her communication and awareness stood out. She was constantly talking, directing, anticipating what was coming next, and taking ownership of the court around her.   What we loved most about Jocelyn was how involved she was in every single rally. Whether she was chasing down an out-of-system ball after making a defensive play, covering a hitter, calling an offensive option, or working hard in transition to get herself back into setting position, she was always doing something productive. Her motor never seemed to stop, and it was difficult to take your eyes off her because she was constantly finding ways to impact the next contact.   Jocelyn also showed a strong understanding of what it means to run a floor. She wasn't simply focused on delivering the second ball—she was communicating with her hitters, organizing the offense, and anticipating what her team needed before the play developed. That type of court awareness is impressive for a young setter and gives her a strong foundation as she continues to grow into the position.   She's the type of athlete who proves that impact isn't determined by size. Her hustle, communication, competitiveness, and ability to stay engaged in every phase of the game make her an exciting player to follow. Jocelyn is an impact player through and through, and we can't wait to continue watching her develop and see where the game takes her.     Kamri Hubbell is an incredibly well-rounded athlete, and her impact at the showcase extended far beyond simply delivering a great second ball. She showed that she can contribute in nearly every phase of the game and, more importantly, was willing to do whatever was needed to help her team find success.   Whether Kamri was asked to defend, attack, or run the offense, she stepped into the moment with confidence. Defensively, it was evident that the athletes around her trusted her to make a play. When she had an opportunity to attack, she wasn't hesitant to take the swing herself. That versatility gave her another dimension as a setter and made her someone opponents had to account for throughout the rally.   As a setter, Kamri showed great control and consistency. She delivered a quality ball to the outside from a variety of situations, but she certainly wasn't afraid to utilize the rest of the net. She did a great job moving the ball around, involving different hitters, and keeping the opposing defense and blockers guessing. Rather than becoming predictable, Kamri showed the confidence and decision-making to take advantage of the options available to her.   Her speed was another major asset throughout the showcase. Kamri covered an impressive amount of ground and competed to make a play on just about anything. Even when the first contact wasn't perfect, she worked hard to get herself underneath the ball and give her hitters an opportunity to score. That combination of athleticism, versatility, decision-making, and all-out effort makes Kamri an exciting young floor general, and we're looking forward to watching her continue to develop her game.     Roman Nixon always seems to be one step ahead, and that court awareness was on full display throughout the Freshman Showcase. She runs a great tempo offense, makes confident decisions, and plays with an understanding of the game that allows her to anticipate what needs to happen next. Rather than simply reacting to each play, Roman looks comfortable taking control of the offense and putting the athletes around her in positions to be successful.   Her connection with her middles was one of the first things that stood out to us. Roman wasn't afraid to establish the middle early and continued finding ways to get them involved throughout the showcase. She delivered a consistent ball with great tempo, allowing her middles to stay aggressive and creating another element opposing blockers had to respect. For a setter working with unfamiliar hitters in a showcase environment, developing that connection so quickly was impressive.   She was equally intentional with her pins. Roman consistently communicated with her hitters and asked for feedback about the location and tempo they needed to be most successful. That willingness to listen, adjust, and figure out how to bring the best out of each individual hitter speaks volumes about her coachability and understanding of the setter position. Great setters aren't just accurate—they learn what each hitter needs, and Roman showed that mentality throughout the day.   Roman is a great teammate and a young floor general with an exciting foundation already in place. We know she's only going to continue developing as she gains experience at the high school level, and we expect her to be a name we'll continue hearing for years to come.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The 2026 Summer Showcases were an incredible way to wrap up the club season, and we couldn't be more excited about the talent we saw on display.
