AZ Freshman Showcase: Top Performers

At our Freshman Showcase we had a ton of top end talent come through the doors on those days, especially during this showcase. We have it all in these 8, top end setters, top level pins, physical middle blockers, and those liberos who don't let anything fall. I would expect some if not all of these names to have some high impact school season or by the time club rolls around a lot of these names will be household names. We are still going through a ton of showcase articles this week so be on the lookout even if you didn't see your name, we know how much talent there is in AZ!    Natalie is a setter who does a lot of things well, and doesn't seem to have any holes in her game when it comes to her and setting. She can run all the sets and from a lot of locations on the floor as well. Her hands are soft and strong enough to make difficult sets for other setters look pretty easy for her teammates. She really demonstrated the ability to run an offense from all over the floor and was able to connect with all hitters, especially the middles. Most impressively she sees the court well and isn't afraid to distribute the ball around, which keeps the offense balanced and makes it harder for defenses to sit on one option.   Natalie also has some great form when it comes to passing and playing defense. She also is exceptional with her speed and can get to a great spot for defense after setting up the offense. She seemed to be all over the place at the showcase. On top of that her defensive instincts really stand out, especially with her ability to read hitters, get her hands on balls, and keep plays alive that could easily turn into points for the other side. She does all those little things really well and really stood out as a top performer with her ability to do all the factors needed in a top level setter.     A lot of good players at this event, but one middle that really caught my eye with her game play was Makenna. She was a dominate force throughout the showcase, both standing out during drills, and even more once game play started. She can do it all with her offense and is able to score at will it seemed like. She is someone that takes full advantage of a 1 on 1 and can score to all corners on the floor. A thing that also stands out is she constantly involved at the net, whether it's pressing over on a block, attacking a quick set, or transitioning into the next play.   On defense, this is where I think she excels even more, as she makes other middles look average and moves extremely well side to side to close a lot of blocks. It helps that she has some great reach with her block and is able to get well above the net to take those angles away, but her footwork getting to the pin to close the block really separates her from others in this class as she takes great steps to make sure it is close and will load with ease with that same footwork. Overall, she can do it all from the middle position and really was a top performer at her showcase, and probably a top performer for the whole day as well.     A libero who really did a great job standing out was Charli, as she has a very well rounded game as defender. Throughout the showcase Charli really demonstrated the ability to play great defense and she seemed to see the game at a high level. Her platform was smooth and simple on contact and always in a great spot to get good passes on target. She moved with ease during drills and game play, this helped her get from defense to base and back to defense. She was always moving to get her hands on the ball and being loud throughout the showcase while also passing to a high level. She seemed comfortable taking space at the showcase and isn't afraid to step in and take difficult balls, which gave her team a lot of stability defensively.   That same footwork also helped her in serve receive as well, as anytime a ball came where she needed to pass she always seemed to get in a good position. Whether it be a shorter ball or a deep serve, she moved her feet with ease and was able to get that good contact to pass on target. She has a great foundation for her form that really makes her game look so good and you can argue it is some of the best regardless of age. She brings consistency in serve receive, range defensively and showed all of that off at the showcase which really made her a top performer.     Another top level libero who really stood out is Reagan; who is a rock as a libero and is someone who really showed up at the showcase. Reagan is very mechanically sound as a libero and always seems to get great touches on the ball when she passes it. She does well with her defense, and serve receive always creating that angle to pass to the target. She moves with ease to get her feet behind the ball and stays on her feet as she can read where the ball is going early. I love how technically sound she is and she repeats it with each rep. She was fun to watch with her form and how well she plays and passes.   One of my favorite parts about he overall game is how well she can communicate during game play, or just her energy as a player. If we had an all vibes team she would be on it as she just plays with a great passion and seems to love the game. Her overall game translate very well as she is always hustling, covering, and being aggressive with her coverage in seams. As a coach, we need all of that in our players and she brings that to the table with each rep. She was a top performer at this showcase and someone who should do well in school ball this year.     Layla was as dominate as ever at the showcase as a middle. She is going to be something special if she plays like this all the time. As a middle she has the all around package for someone so young as she can be dominate in both her offense and defense. On defense she does well getting laterally to close the block and seems to always know where the ball is going as it shows she has a great feel for the game. She presses very well on the block on the pins and in the middle. This results in a ton of blocks and block touches that help slow the ball down for the passers to keep everyone in system.   Where she really shines is her offensive game as she is already someone that can do pretty much every set a middle needs to know. She can run in front and behind the setter and has already developed a pretty devastating slide that is highly effective when she connects on it. She gets great loads on her approaches and use those to get some fast swings behind the ball. She can generate a lot of pace from a compact swing that really makes her effective as a middle. Layla is someone who has already been on our radar but really confirmed her ability with what she did at the showcase.     A new setter to the state of AZ! Senalah is going to be a star here in AZ. She has good hands, is a threat on offense, and can play next level defense. She has the capability to run a 5-1 and be a front row setter as she can put up a good block as well and isn't afraid to take a rip at the ball or dump it if needed. She has all the other factors we look for in our setters along with their hands and ability to run an offense. On top of that she has a great serve that really was giving passers troubles when she got to show it off.   As for her setting, she has a very high IQ when it comes to running an offense on top of being able to make every set that is needed to be successful. She has great footwork and is quick enough to get her hands on almost every ball, which results in her placing the ball on a plate for her hitters to terminate the ball. She is next level with her ability to place a ball right where the hitter needs and can do it from in system and out of system. Her hands might be the best in the class, and that is saying a lot with who is in this class. Overall it was great to see her play live, and she is going to make some big time noise in AZ this season, and was an easy pick as a top performer.     Another out of state transfer we have Collins, who showed up at the showcase and really demonstrated her all around game play. She is an outside hitter who is good at not only terminating balls, but also being able to pass and play high level defense which is an added bonus. From a scouting standpoint, she's the type of outside who gives you a lot of lineup flexibility as she can serve, play defense, and serve receive just like a libero. She is someone who can be trusted in six rotations while still being a legitimate offensive option.   Collins has the physical tools to be a difference maker on the pin, showing explosiveness arm speed with the ability to attack from a variety of locations. She can score through a block, around a block, and over a block and take the angles the defense gives her for cut or down the line as well. She is a very athletic pin who can move well and gets her feet behind the ball to pass both in serve receive and defense. It was the first time we got to see Collins and she did not disappoint and should be a top level outside this year for high school. As for the showcase, an easy pick as a top performer and someone who will be in our rankings next time around!     Arabella was a top performer as she is someone who can do a lot for her team, and at the showcase she really demonstrated the ability to be great at a lot of things in multiple spots. For starters, her ability to stay available in transition and attack out of system made her jump out in my eyes. Someone who can take high level swings when out of system is a tough skill to teach and she seemed to do that well. She also does well with in system swings and can put some real pace behind the ball when she hits and has a nice off speed to her game as well with those tips and roll shots as well.   She also brings a physical presence at the net and does a good job competing for blocks and challenging hitters. She isn't afraid to go up and take away space from any hitter and really does well in taking away angles when she is on one one with some hitters. Her footwork is great and allows her to be explosive to get up on the block as well. Bella plays with good energy, competes at the net, and has the athletic ability to create matchup problems in a variety of spots and really showed all the aspects at our showcase and was an easy pick as a top performer.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   The 2026 Summer Showcases were an incredible way to wrap up the club season, and we couldn't be more excited about the talent we saw on display. The future of Arizona volleyball is incredibly bright, and we're grateful to have had the opportunity to watch so many players compete.   This is just the beginning.
