Texas Left Handed Athletes with Something Extra

<p>Round two of shouting out left handed athletes in honor of National Left Handers Day, Aug 13, 2026. In a right hand dominant world, challenges and adversities come for those who use the non dominant side. In the game of volleyball, as coaches and teammates, we love the idea of having the surprise element of a lefty on the court. But what does it take to bring the surprise factor teams crave? Being able to mentally make note to flip her feet or face the opposite way, became a necessary feat to keeping up with the play. As she continued to develop her game, she learned to consistently communicate and make adjustments quickly. These attributes have set her apart for her efficiency and court awareness. Staying ahead of the play and ensuring her teammates can hear her play after play leaves room for little hesitation, and great trust built between teammates.Now that she has grown into a solid defender she has grown to enjoy the different element she brings to the game. Utilizing her ability to hit different angles with ease and surprise unexpecting teams with an intense lefty serve. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='996882' first='Kennedy' last='Cook'], a dominating pin hitter for [program_tooltip program_id='431200' first='Madfrog' last=''] Volleyball Club that is growing into a powerhouse left handed hitter. As a hitter she has battled with the challenge of others assuming she is bound to the right side because of the left hand. During her time on the court she has learned to communicate and express her ability to swing from anywhere. Making herself known both vocally and by example on the court she has developed a great confidence in her play. Her greatest help has been open communication with coaches and teammates about her preferences on the court, as well as, developing the trust to showcase her abilities all over the court. Kennedy is continuing to develop as a well rounded player and is thriving on her tricky swing from the outside pin.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='804222' first='Jocelyn' last='Moen'], a consistent and fundamental right side hitter for [program_tooltip program_id='475085' first='1United' last='']. Playing for Centennial High School, she brings an edge to the opposite side. In her time on the court, there has been the occasional struggle of footwork and swing adjustments from different areas of the court. Training in all positions has added a poise and patient factor to her game that serves as a great influence in the tough games. Her ability to read and confidently swing from anywhere makes her a great key to any offense. She is not afraid to play defense, pushing opponents to find different ways to take her out of play. As she has developed a strong swing she has come to favor a block leaving her room to light up the line. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">[player_tooltip player_id='580701' first='Nadia' last='McGee'], setter/Rs for [program_tooltip program_id='431237' first='Power' last='Volleyball Club'] this past season and a class of 2028 for Walnut Grove. She has developed a great sense of urgency on the court and has learned to lead the game from the setter position. As a lefty setter, she has had to face to challenge of footwork and the tricky attack from the net. Consistent reps and hard work has built the quick and effective offensive threat that now graces the court. Being able to run her hitters at a fast tempo, as well as, serve as an offensive threat herself has made her a weapon of sorts for her teams. As she continues building her game her ability to move effectively and stay ahead of defenses will be her thriving point.</p>     <p class="text-gray-700">Ashtyn Osborn, a 2028 lefty pin hitter from Waxahachie, brings size, strength, and grit to the right side. Her determination on the court has pushed her to face her struggle in using her right hand too. Broken blocks have shown her the hole in her game and she has taken on the task of learning to close with her non dominant hand when blocking on the right pin. Having the coaches and court availability to get in the practice reps has given her the upper hand her blocking technique. As an athlete her natural ability to move and explode on the court is evident, but learning to control her athletic abilities is what has set her apart. She has taken the time and put in the effort to focus on hand placement, and positioning at the net to ensure her success on both sides of the ball. In developing her game she has grown to favor the advantages of swinging oppo. Against an unexpecting block and a good set, Ashtyn will get the kill.</p>
