Six Top-10 Nevada Teams and Standout Players to Watch at DFC

The Durango Fall Classic always brings elite talent to Las Vegas, and this year Nevada has several state-ranked teams and standout players ready to be tested against some of the top programs in the country. From established state powers to rising programs across Southern and Northern Nevada, this weekend gives the state's best a chance to see how they stack up against elite competition from around the country. These state-ranked teams and standout players are among Nevada's biggest names to watch at Durango. Tournament play begins on Friday, September 18, 2026.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bishop Gorman (#1 Ranked in NV, #47 in the Nation)</h2>   The three-time defending 5A state champions enter the Durango Fall Classic unbeaten at 12-0 and ranked No. 1 in Nevada. Gorman has already taken down Centennial, Arbor View, Shadow Ridge, Palo Verde and Faith Lutheran this season, and the Gaels have the type of depth that should translate well into a tournament where teams may have to play several matches in a short window.   Bishop Gorman opens pool play at 2:00 p.m. at Foothill High School on Court 3.    100 kills, 3.1 kills per set.   Pesic has been Gorman's top offensive option early in the season. Her ability to score from the pin while also giving the Gaels versatility makes her one of the biggest names to follow this weekend.     197 assists   Portnoy has handled a large portion of the setting duties for an offense with plenty of weapons. How efficiently she distributes against bigger blocks will be important as the competition gets tougher.     4.0 digs per set.   Lopez anchors the backcourt and currently leads the team in digs per set. Against the heavy arms Gorman will see at Durango, first contact and extended-rally defense will be a major piece of their success. Committed to Providence College.     .409 hitting efficiency.   Tasi currently leads Gorman in hitting percentage and gives the Gaels an efficient option through the middle. Her production forces opposing blocks to respect more than just Gorman's pin hitters.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Faith Lutheran</h2>   Faith Lutheran enters as Nevada's No. 2 team with an 11-2 record. The Crusaders have already picked up a 3-0 win over Coronado and started the season with several strong tournament performances before falling to Bishop Gorman. Their offensive balance and size give them a legitimate opportunity to compete with the national programs in their pool.   Faith Lutheran opens pool play at 1:00 p.m. at Silverado High School on Court 2.    109 kills, .382 hitting percentage.   The 6-foot-4 sophomore has already established herself as one of the state's most productive young attackers. Through 28 sets of reported statistics, she also has 65 digs, 14 aces and 10 blocks, giving Faith production in nearly every phase.     key six-rotation contributor.   Castro has shown she can impact matches even when she is not carrying the kill load. Against Albuquerque, she finished with 16 digs and two aces, while earlier against El Toro she posted 11 kills, five digs and two aces. Committed to Arkansas Tech University.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Bishop Manogue</h2>   Northern Nevada deserves some shine in this field too, and Bishop Manogue comes in as the highest-ranked Nevada team outside the Las Vegas area. The Miners were No. 3 in the state in the Sept. 14 MaxPreps rankings and entered this week with just one loss. They also bring two of Northern Nevada's most intriguing outside hitters in [player_tooltip player_id='532710' first='Lily' last='Beckwith'] and [player_tooltip player_id='532706' first='Audrey' last='Sutherland'].   Bishop Manogue opens pool play at 1:00 p.m. at Silverado High School on Court 1.    49 kills, .344 hitting percentage (several match stats not recorded)   At 6-foot-5, Sutherland immediately changes what opponents have to deal with at the net. Her length and ability to terminate from the pin make her a matchup to circle throughout pool play. Committed to Clemson University.     46 kills, 2.9 kills per set (several match stats not recorded).   Beckwith gives Manogue another proven six-rotation option and has been one of the program's leading attackers for several seasons. The 5-foot-11 outside is committed to Long Beach State.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Coronado (Ranked #7 in Nevada)</h2>   Coronado has played one of the tougher in-state schedules of this group and enters the tournament 10-4. The Cougars are coming off a 3-1 win over Foothill and have already faced Faith Lutheran, Centennial and Shadow Ridge. That experience against quality competition should help when they open Pool 14 against a loaded group that includes Marymount.   Coronado opens pool play at 2:15 p.m. at Coronado High School on Court 4.    3.1 kills per set, 27 aces, 116 kills.   Beckham is producing on both offense and from the service line. She also leads Coronado in hitting percentage at .247, making her one of the Cougars' most important point scorers. Jamie is committed to Fresno State University.     35 total block, 71 kills.   Huebner is already making a major impact at the net as a freshman. Her 35 blocks lead Coronado and give the Cougars a needed defensive presence against bigger national-level attackers.     3.5 digs per set.   Guerzon leads Coronado's floor defense and will be tested repeatedly against the physical serving and attacking teams in this tournament. Her ability to keep Coronado in system and extend rallies could be just as important as any offensive number the Cougars put up.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Centennial (Ranked #8 in Nevada)</h2>     Centennial brings a 12-6 record into the weekend and was No. 8 in Nevada in the Sept. 14 rankings. The Bulldogs have already seen Bishop Gorman, Coronado, Foothill and Arbor View, so they are another team entering Durango with plenty of meaningful matches under their belt. Pool 13 will be a serious test with Archbishop Mitty and Redondo Union waiting.   Centennial opens pool play at 1:00 p.m. at Silverado High School on Court 4.    3.3 kills per set, 36 aces, .274 hitting %, 127 kills.   Bernard leads Centennial in kills per set, hitting percentage and aces, making her one of the Bulldogs' biggest point producers. She is capable of putting pressure on opponents both from the pin and from behind the service line.     92 kills, 121 digs, 3.2 digs per set.   Riley has been one of Centennial's most reliable defenders while still giving them another attacking option on the outside. That two-way ability will matter when rallies get longer against high-level opponents.     34 total blocks, .240 hitting efficiency.   Blaylock leads Centennial at the net and gives the Bulldogs a physical presence in the middle. Her .240 hitting efficiency also shows that she is more than just a blocker, giving Centennial another efficient scoring option when they establish the middle. She is committed to Cal State Monterey Bay.    <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Shadow Ridge (Ranked #10 in Nevada)</h2>   Shadow Ridge has already put together a 14-4 start and owns a notable 3-1 victory over Coronado. The Mustangs have also played Bishop Gorman and a number of tournament matches, so they should be comfortable with the faster turnaround required at Durango. They will face Harrisburg, Lone Peak and Buchanan in Pool 9.   Shadow Ridge opens pool play at 2:00 p.m. at Silverado High School on Court 3.    233 assists and a team-leading service presence.   Scott runs the Mustang offense and has also been one of their biggest threats from behind the service line with 50 aces. She essentially is able to change a run without ever attacking the ball.     170 kills, 132 digs, .269 hitting efficiency   Morrow has been Shadow Ridge's primary offensive weapon while also producing consistently in the backcourt. Her combination of 170 kills and 132 digs shows she is not simply a front-row scorer, she is giving the Mustangs production through all six rotations.    With 13 Nevada programs spread throughout 13 different pools, the opening round guarantees that every local team gets an opportunity to test itself against out-of-state competition.
