It amazes me the number of "home schools" that compete in the volleyball landscape. In Virginia home schoolers face a prohibition from participating in sports (VHSL) in public schools. The same exists for Maryland for MPSSAA schools. However, homeschool exclusive leagues are allowed and a number appear to be sprouting in the DMV area. While home school teams appear restricted from playing VHSL or MPSSAA high schools no restriction exists that prevents them from playing private schools (VISAA or IAAM). Below are at least three home school teams, two in Virginia and one in Maryland that carry players who appear in our DMV rankings.

Central Virginia Home School

They may be the most competitive home school in the DMV area. Located in the Richmond area they play some of the private schools in the area, defeating some (Collegiate, St. Catherines and Fredericksburg Christian). At 24-2 for the year, their only two losses have come against Fredericksburg Christian and Bishop O'Connell. Fredericksburg last year played in the VISAA Division II championship match last year, losing to StoneBridge. O'Connell ranks as the number one high school in the DMV area by Prep Dig. Central Virginia Home School has four players who appear in our rankings. Many public high schools feel lucky to roster one.

While she shows up as a setter on the roster that does not appear to be her role on the Central Virginia Home School team. For her club team Momentum she set a 5/1. Their main setter in high school [player_tooltip player_id='936618' first='Ryann' last='Owensby'] sets for [program_tooltip program_id='498495' first='Richmond' last='Volleyball Club'].

Despite her left handed swing Autumn swings from the left side. She also fires missiles from the back row. That production puts her number one on the team in kills. When she makes contact the ball travels with high velocity. No doubt she would be an impact player for a VHSL volleyball team as a pin hitter. She also could fill in as a setter.

Autumn lists at 5'11" on the Central Virginia Home School website and 5'9" on her rec recruiting profile. In the class of 2028 she ranks at 139.

Autumn plays travel ball for Momentum Volleyball Club. They are affiliated with Central Virginia Home School. For Momentum last year she set and hit right side.

Listed at 6'2" Nadia carries the broad shoulders that cover a lot of ground for blocking. While many of her 97 blocks may come against weaker competition they still lead the state of Virginia in blocks. That averages about 1.6 blocks per set. Against a quality offensive team Bishop O'Connell she was able to string together three blocks.

Her stratospheric .647 hitting percentage is also tops in the state. Against O'Connell she totaled four kills in 5 attempts for an .800 hitting percentage. That success puts her second on the team in kills.

Nadia ranks at number 103 in our class of 2027. She also plays travel ball for Momentum.

The younger sister of Nadia brings her 6'2" height to the left side. She sits third on the team in kills as well as third in blocks. The two sisters combine for 46 percent of the team's kills and 71 percent of their blocks. Her .346 hitting percentage stands out. Against Bishop O'Connell she led the team in kills with 6.

Eleanor ranks number 19 in the class o 2029, mainly because she played as a 17 when only 15 years old. That was for Momentum Volleyball Club. The challenge for her to stay that high in the rankings is to play against top level competition with continued success.

Ryann is the main setter for Central Virginia Home School, usually running a 5/1. When she plays club for [program_tooltip program_id='498495' first='Richmond' last='Volleyball Club'] she runs a 6/2. When I watched Momentum play a tournament [player_tooltip player_id='768545' first='Autumn' last='Schwartz'] set a 5/1.

Ryann runs a quick offense when setting a 6/2 for [program_tooltip program_id='498495' first='Richmond' last='Volleyball Club']. They have a number of talented hitters that can attack at various areas of the net. For Central the offense tends to be a little more conservative leaving her skills as a setter restricted.

At 5'11" she brings good height to the position. She ranks fourth on the team in blocks. Ryann has committed to Liberty.

Frederic Force

Abigail is one of the two setters for Frederic Force. While the team has gone 14-1 the quality of their opponents has been limited. Their big test will occur during their last match of the season when they go against Bullis. Abigail sets as a frosh on the team.

She lists as a setter/right side on the roster. For Metro 14 she set the team to an Open Division appearance at Junior Nationals. Her listed height of 5'9" for the 14 age group is strong. Frederic Force shows her as a setter/right side on the roster. It would not surprise me if she hits right side in a 6/2 for Frederic. For Metro Travel she sets a 6/2. They substitute for her when she reaches the front row.

Abigail starts her ranking off at number 40 in the class of 2030.

Northern Virginia Home School

I first noticed Kaitlin when she set for American. She set a 6/2 subbing out once she reached the front row. She also appeared at one of our Prep Dig showcases winning a top performer award.

While they have won more matches than they have lost their record is not as dominant as Frederic Force or Central Virginia Home School. Kaitlin appears to stand out as their top player, running a 5/1 to lead the team in assists, while also playing front row to position herself second in blocks. She also ranks second in ace serves. When watching her play for American Kaitlin runs a 6/2. They normally substitute for her when she reaches the front row.

Stonebridge

Madalyn home schooled at until her junior year when she registered to enroll at StoneBridge. With her leading the charge StoneBridge won the VISAA Division II state championship with a 38-0 record. When the season ended she led the team in kills with an impressive .425 hitting percentage. Her current .444 hitting percentage is fifth in the state of Virginia.

At 6'0" she gets good arm extension to put balls away. Madalyn has committed to the U.S. Coast Guard.
