I was able to attend 3 powerpoint games last week and a tournament so lets dive into some standouts that I saw during that time. I will focus on the powerpoint games in this article today and then have a 2 part standout special from the Epic Tourney this weekend. Last week I was able to attend and scout:

Pinnacle vs Millennium on 9/22 (won by Pinnacle 3-2)

Xavier vs Sandra Day O'Connor on 9/23 (won by SDO 3-1)

Sunrise Mountain vs Skyline on 9/24 (won by Sunrise Mountain 3-0)

Seeing these 6 teams live for the first time really was a great time and got to see a ton of top end talent! Although these are not all the standouts from these matches, here are 10 girls who really stood out with their game play during the matches:

In the Xavier match Berkley was a cut above the rest when it came to her game. Every time her team needed a big point she was there and ready to get it done. She was dominate on the pin not just with her offense but also with her serve receive and defense, keeping her team in system more times then not. She is the game changing pin that all coaches need to have on high level teams. She ended up leading Sandra Day in kills and digs for the match with 21 kills and 17 digs! It isn't very often you see an outside hitter in a marquee match up lead her team in both statistical categories but Berkley just was that dominate in the match. A clear top performer in this match and a standout from the week for sure.

Now, who makes the #1 Eagles offense roll... and go at a high efficiency rating.. we have London. Sandra Day O'Connor runs a 5-1 offense and London is the one running the show for them. She is someone who uses her court IQ to know who to use and when, and she let that be on full display in this match up. The Eagles ended up hitting .268 and had a whopping 14.5 kills a set. Their offense was humming and London was a big reason why. She would run the middles, opposites, and outsides and didn't shy away from any of them and just took the best match up and went after it. She was also solid at the net blocking, getting multiple touches and in the backrow with her digs. She finished the match with 48 assists and was making some impressive sets, even when her team wasn't in system and was a clear standout from this match.

A freshman libero leading one of the top 5 teams in the state is not a sight you see all to common but Kalenna is just that good with her game play and ability to impact the game at the libero position. In the match up with Sandra Day she was all over the place with her defense and did a great job filling any gaps in the block to get in system digs and touches for her team. She passed extremely well in serve receive and did a great job in some rotations of taking up almost 1/2 the court with her movement and touches she was getting. She was daring them to serve her and made sure to pass well when targeted. She had 24 digs, 5 assists, and 34 receptions in serve receive (only 1 error), so she had a lot of great touches and was able to do a lot with them to help her team. A clear standout from last weeks games!

One player that really stood out to me with her overall play was A'miyah as she was a key offensive and defensive player for the Tigers in their match up with Pinnacle. She was second on the team in kills during the match with 12 and would do a great job hitting around blocks, through them, or use speed to beat the block in the hole. She was more impressive on defense though, finishing the match with a game high 7 blocks, and that isn't including how many more she got touches on or how many hitters she effected with her hands being in front of them! She was an impressive force at the net on both sides of the ball, and someone who seems to keep getting better each week and each season. She is someone to keep an eye on and was a clear standout last week and in this match.

Emma can did a lot for her team with her game play, this includes offense, defense, and setting. In this match against Millennium she was applying pressure in all those ways to help lead the Pioneers to a come from behind victory. What really stood out to me was her ability to run the high level offense to a high degree and to do so with pace. She put a lot of hitters in advantageous situations with her ability to get them the ball fast and in a great spot, and her hitters really took full advantage with multiple kills against single blocks. She would see who was doing well and would feed them the ball to get rallies and scoring runs going in each set. She was a difference maker even when she wasn't setting by playing high level defense and got a few amazing digs against some top level hitters from the Tigers. Overall, she put in a fine game and was one of the big reasons Pinnacle did so well and got the win.

Tessa had a all around great game for Sunrise in their match up with Skyline, she was 1st in assists, 2nd in aces, and 2nd in digs. She was able to do so much for the Mustangs and she was a big reason for them getting the win. Her serving was precise, direct and she served with purpose with each one. She knew where she was going and even when she didn't get an ace, appling enough pressure to make it difficult for Skyline to get anything going. Her setting was also high level as she seemed to know who to set and when, and took full advantage of every match up that was presented to her. Watching her play on defense was also great as she has great form when she plays balls and was always reading the hitters to get in a good position to pass the ball. Her ability to impact the game in more then one way makes her an easy pick as a standout in her match up.

Brielle led her team in kills in this match up but also was able to make a difference at the net with her blocking and at the service line by chipping in 3 aces as well. Offensively she was a step above the rest at the net, routinely putting balls away and taking full advantage of the defense in front of her. She saw where the holes were and would attack those spots. She played with a lot of energy and was fun to watch even when her teammates got kills as she was more excited for them at times. She was also a force at the net, taking away space with her block, and although didn't get a lot of blocks, caused a ton of issues for Skyline and trying to hit around her. Brielle impacted the game in more then one area and you could make an argument she was the best player on the floor all night, a easy pick as our standout from this match and last week.

Anytime Xavier plays and Tessa is in the game she is more then likely going to be a standout. This match against Sandra Day was no different as she was one of the only reasons they were able to take a set from them. Unofficially in the third set she had 9 kills, and it might be double digits in that set as well and that was a big reason they ended up winning that set. Overall she finished the match with a game high 23 kills and was a clear difference maker on the pin. She also was second on the team with 19 digs as well, and clearly was making maximum effort to keep balls alive and get great touches to help her team stay in system. She almost had a 20 kill-20 dig night which are rare to fine! She wasn't targeted much in serve receive but when she was, she was passing dimes so Sandra Day did a good job avoiding her with their serves. She was a clear standout in this match, and did all she could for the Gators to try to pull out the win.

Aubrey was great for Millennium in their match up as she got a ton.. and I mean a ton of great digs, passes in serve receive, and hustle plays to try and keep her team in the match. Her overall play as a libero was one of the big reasons this match up went 5 sets. For starters she reads the game so well and is able to get a ton of in system touches on balls in serve receive that are intended for others but she can jump in those seams and pass the balls. She finished the match with a game high 35 digs which just really shows how well she was moving and getting touches on these hard driven balls, tips, and all her hustle plays to keep the ball alive. She also didn't miss a serve all night and was continually applying pressure to Pinnacle with her service placement and pace on the ball. She was an easy pick as a standout and a big reason this match went 5.

We've officially hit the heart of the school season, and with the playoffs quickly approaching, there is still plenty of volleyball left to be played.
