Perry vs Hamilton Game Recap and Standouts

WHAT. A. GAME!   Perry and Hamilton went point-for-point early, but as the match progressed, the Pumas' blocking presence, smart offensive decisions, and ability to score in big moments proved to be the difference. Perry came away with the sweep, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24, but Hamilton made them earn it — especially during a late third-set push that nearly forced a fourth.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Set 1: Perry's Block Takes Over From the Jump</h2>   The opening set started about as evenly as possible. Both teams appeared very aware of the block on the other side of the net, resulting in plenty of tipping and off-speed shots early.   Perry's middle, Jolley, quickly established herself at the net, recording two big blocks within the first 10 points of the match. Hamilton responded behind its own weapons, with Jo putting together a nice run and [player_tooltip player_id='919648' first='Charlotte' last='Lilley'] delivering a big swing to help Hamilton take a 10-7 advantage. A few Hamilton errors allowed Perry to erase the lead, tying the set at 11-11, and from there it became a battle at the net.   Hamilton continued to find success with Hailey attacking aggressively and Kat James making her presence felt as a blocker. James came up with back-to-back blocks as Hamilton stayed within striking distance. But Perry's block eventually became too much. [player_tooltip player_id='778035' first='Kalista' last='Fuller'] delivered multiple huge blocks late in the set as the Pumas stretched their advantage to 23-18. Lilley continued to battle, answering with a big swing, while <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/vishaka-ganesan-vivi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vishaka</a> <a href="https://prepdig.com/player/vishaka-ganesan-vivi/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ganesan (Vivi)</a> and <a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/az/chandler/hamilton-huskies/athletes/lyra-moralez/?careerid=qgps1krm45bbb">Lyra</a> <a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/az/chandler/hamilton-huskies/athletes/lyra-moralez/?careerid=qgps1krm45bbb">Moralez</a> made impressive defensive plays to keep Hamilton alive.   Perry ultimately finished the set with an overpass kill followed by an ace to take it 25-20.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Set 2: Fuller and Perry Keep the Pressure On</h2>   Hamilton's [player_tooltip player_id='881061' first='Kira' last='Strawberry'] opened the second set with strong defensive work, but Perry immediately went back to what was working — putting pressure on Hamilton with its block. Hamilton received big swings from [player_tooltip player_id='882773' first='Matilda' last='Hinder'] and Charlie to even the score at 2-2 before Perry's [player_tooltip player_id='885089' first='Sophia' last='Gregg'] found a smart tool off the block. Strong topspin serving from Mak Landis created trouble for Perry's serve receive and allowed Charlie to capitalize on an overpass, tying the set at 4-4.   Then [player_tooltip player_id='778035' first='Kalista' last='Fuller'] began to take over. She scored with both power and placement and continued to show why she is one of the top attackers in her class. Hamilton answered behind blocks from Hailey and Jo, while strong serve receive from [player_tooltip player_id='881061' first='Kira' last='Strawberry'] allowed the Huskies to run a more aggressive offense. [player_tooltip player_id='888746' first='Joelle' last='Wasson'] was another major bright spot offensively for Hamilton, while Matilda and Mak helped close the gap with big blocks.   Still, Perry continued finding answers. The Pumas did an excellent job using Hamilton's block instead of simply trying to overpower it. [player_tooltip player_id='778035' first='Kalista' last='Fuller'] repeatedly found ways to tool the block, while [player_tooltip player_id='920115' first='Presley' last='Farnes'] added another smart attack to help Perry create separation. Charlie made Perry work for nearly everything defensively, but the Pumas adjusted by utilizing tips and off-speed shots.   Kat James continued making an impact at the net for Hamilton, but Perry's offense was able to create favorable one-on-one opportunities. Strong runs from [player_tooltip player_id='703008' first='Kail' last='Shill'] kept Hamilton's blockers moving and helped the Pumas close out the second set 25-18.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Set 3: Hamilton Nearly Forces a Fourth</h2>   The third set ended up being the most entertaining of the match. [player_tooltip player_id='960298' first='London' last='Aldous'] gave Perry immediate momentum from behind the service line, using aggressive serving to push Hamilton out of system. Charlie quickly answered for Hamilton with smart shot selection, while the Huskies also began reading Perry's tipping strategy much better defensively. Farnes came up with another big block for Perry before Wasson answered with one of her own to tie the set at 5-5.   From there, Perry created its first real separation. Fuller was effective from both pins, while a combination of serve-receive and defensive errors from Hamilton helped the Pumas build an 11-6 advantage. Jolley and Gregg continued making life difficult at the net, and Perry eventually stretched its lead to 17-11.   Hamilton wasn't finished. [player_tooltip player_id='891132' first='Tiana' last='Hester'] provided an immediate spark off the bench with a smart offensive play and strong serving. Mak found success running the slide, while Charlie continued to show an impressive understanding of when to attack with power and when to change speeds. Fuller answered with another big swing down the line and later put additional pressure on Hamilton from the service line. Perry appeared to have the match firmly in hand at 22-16.   Then the Huskies made their push. Matilda delivered an ace. Mak continued attacking aggressively. Charlie made outstanding defensive plays and followed them with a back-row attack. Hamilton chipped away at the lead until it suddenly became 24-23. Then Mak and Hailey combined for a massive block to tie the set at 24-24.   Perry's [player_tooltip player_id='934498' first='Ellie' last='Stones'] answered from the right side to regain the lead at 25-24, and the Pumas eventually finished the set 26-24 to complete the sweep. Hamilton may not have gotten the result it wanted, but the final stretch showed a lot about the Huskies. Down significantly late in the third, they continued competing, defending and finding ways to extend rallies rather than allowing Perry to cruise to the finish.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Player Standouts</h2>    [player_tooltip player_id='778035' first='Kalista' last='Fuller'] was one of the most impactful players on the floor. She scored from multiple locations, attacked effectively down the line, used the block extremely well and created additional pressure from behind the service line. What stood out most was her ability to adjust instead of relying solely on power. Hamilton presented a legitimate block, and Fuller consistently found different ways to score around or through it. If we could give away an MVP for the night it would go to her. She's hard to stop.     [player_tooltip player_id='881808' first='Mckinley' last='Jolley'] established Perry's presence at the net almost immediately, recording two blocks within the opening portion of the match. That early success helped set the tone for what became one of Perry's biggest advantages. She continued to make Hamilton's hitters work throughout the match and was a major piece of an impressive blocking performance. She's got great IQ and knows how to recognize hitting patterns quickly. She was such an impressive performer the entire match.     Katlin James (Kat) became increasingly effective as the match progressed. She put together multiple blocks and began reading Hamilton's offensive patterns better as the night went on. Her presence at the net helped Perry stay competitive during several stretches, never letting Hamilton gain momentum or the chance to pull away. She's poised, high level, and remains calm under pressure. Everything you would want from a middle playing in a high pressure game.       [player_tooltip player_id='920115' first='Presley' last='Farnes'] made several timely plays, particularly when Hamilton was beginning to build momentum. She showed good awareness attacking the block and also contributed defensively at the net. Her ability to score intelligently rather than simply swing into a well-formed block was important for Perry. It's hard to remember she played middle school volleyball last season and is now making a huge impact at one of the top programs in the state.     [player_tooltip player_id='919648' first='Charlotte' last='Lilley'] was everywhere. Her defensive effort repeatedly extended rallies that looked finished, but she was equally impressive offensively. She showed a mature understanding of shot selection, knowing when to attack aggressively and when to find the open space with an off-speed shot. Even as Perry pulled ahead, Charlie continued competing and was a huge part of Hamilton's third-set comeback. She proved during this game why she's the front runner of her class. She's the entire package.     Mak impacted the match in several different ways. Her topspin serve created problems early, she was effective attacking the slide, and she came up with important plays at the net. Her block alongside Hailey to tie the third set at 24-24 was one of Hamilton's biggest moments of the night. Her attack was aways aggressive and impactful, and came in clutch.     [player_tooltip player_id='888746' first='Joelle' last='Wasson'] provided Hamilton with consistent production throughout the match. She scored early, capitalized on an overpass, contributed as a blocker and continued providing an offensive option when Hamilton needed one. She played aggressively and gave the Huskies an important presence at the net. There's just no one quite like her in Arizona volleyball, and we love watching her every chance we get.     Strong serve receive from [player_tooltip player_id='881061' first='Kira' last='Strawberry'] helped Hamilton stay in system and gave its offense opportunities to play aggressively. She also made several impressive defensive plays and provided stability in the back row against a Perry team that put significant pressure on Hamilton from behind the service line. She's got excellent court presence, and never gave up even when things got hard.    <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />   We've officially hit the heart of the school season, and with the playoffs quickly approaching, there is still plenty of volleyball left to be played. The next few weeks will be huge as teams battle for positioning and athletes continue to make their mark across Arizona.
