Which Kansas Class 6A Stars Have Made Gains This Fall? (Pt. 1)

Big-city intrigue is on the rise in the Sunflower State.

It's hard not to get wrapped up in the week-by-week gauntlet that Class 6A creates. Powerhouse programs from Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, and beyond wield talented athletes who will surely make an impact at the next level. It's the perfect proving ground for the next wave of breakout stars, and Class 6A has brought plenty of those this fall.

You may have seen some of these names before. These are players with year-round influence in prep and club venues. Now, they're making strides in the 6A spotlight while helping their teams prepare for postseason play.

Mill Valley was a sure bet for this feature. The undefeated Jaguars have trotted out a veteran-laden lineup to pace the Class 6A field, and Sturdy is a vital piece of the 2028 crew. This Tulsa commit has always been an elite scorer on the pin, and she's maintained the two kills per set she's averaged since freshman year. But Mill Valley has also harnessed the setting prowess we've seen from Sturdy in her club travels with [program_tooltip program_id='428889' first='Dynasty' last='']. She's dishing out a smooth offense from the back row and proving her Division I-worthiness at multiple positions. Sturdy and Mill Valley are the 6A frontrunners until proven otherwise.

We've been hyping up this Blue Valley West setter since the early days of this year's club season. She logged several standout performances with [program_tooltip program_id='430200' first='KC' last='Power'] 16-1, showing her unique blend of precision and physicality as an all-around setter. She recently made a return trip to the Premier Nebraska x LOVB facility, this time with her Blue Valley West squad. Harris proved that her Jaguars can take their dominant form on the road, and those reps will pay off ahead of a final postseason push.

Olathe Northwest has deployed several new stars for this year's team, allowing players like Watson to reenter the spotlight. She has emerged as a key part of the Ravens' two-setter offense, delivering accurate sets from the right-back area. That immediate impact also applies to Watson's serve, which consistently forces opposing teams out of system. A productive spring tenure with MAVS 816 was the prelude to further growth against Kansas City's best.

We're sticking with the setter spot for this one, but it's Wichita's turn to command the conversation. Crum has been as productive as you could ask from a first-year starter. She has churned out nearly ten assists per set for the Grizzlies and is not afraid to square up at the net, either. We were initially treated to Crum's gun-slinging style when she competed with Kansas Rise's top 16s squad on the club circuit. Now, her fearless attitude has earned her a leadership role as an upperclassman.

Let's delve into the Class of 2029. Garden City is always the major urban center to watch in southwestern Kansas, and Doll has established herself as one of the area's best. She has tallied nearly two kills per set for the Buffaloes, maintaining the exceptional level she brought as a freshman. Doll's sophomore progression is encompassed by her willingness to move around and run different routes across the front row. She has become increasingly comfortable off of one foot to open up Garden City's offense and become incredibly difficult to defend.

Here's a familiar name from the club campaign. Petermann's KC Power 15-2 team drew plenty of buzz this spring, especially after blitzing through national competition at Kansas City's Show Me Qualifier. That KC-area preeminence has persisted with Olathe North, where Petermann has eclipsed triple-digit kills with the Eagles. Petermann works hard to make herself an available transition target, and that effort has paid off. Even after her quality club reps in the middle, Petermann is staking her claim as a high-impact opposite at Olathe North.

Even the freshmen aren't afraid to step into the Class 6A crucible. Clark has already made her mark with Lawrence Free State, dishing out clutch swings on the pin and carrying an equally vital role as a defender. Clark's infectious energy with KC Power should be a staple of our 15s coverage next spring, but unfinished business remains with the Firebirds. Lawrence Free State is well-positioned for postseason noise with a 17-4 record and plenty of positive momentum.
