This weekend one of the most traditional season-opening events in the Houston area will take place – the 2022 FAST Warm Up. This season, the tournament will feature as many as 273 teams from the area and other regions of the state, split across 13 divisions, with matches played in five different clubs.
Here are five prospects that are worth keeping an eye on early in the season:
A long and explosive pin hitter, Tuufuli should lead SA Juniors 18 Adidas’ offense in the tournament. She’s extremely powerful and can hit the ball hard and score at a high rate regardless of the situation, but has been adding more and more tools to her game over the years. Although her offense continues to be the most intriguing area of her game, Tuufuli has grown into a solid passer and defender over the years.
Expect Herrin to be one of the most dynamic and exciting middles in the 17s divisions with her Houston Stellar 17 Elite team. She was a stud for her high school team Clear Creek during the last high school season and should be a force during club season too. Herrin is tremendously athletic, moving quickly on the court and jumping high, and plays the game with a lot of intensity. She’s a formidable blocker and can carry her team’s offense too when she gets into a rhythm.
Highlights
Maggie McCarroll
Maggie McCarroll
An uber talented all-around prospect, McCarroll will be playing one age group with Austin Performance this season, strengthening AP 16 Adidas. There’s not a lot she can’t do on a volleyball court as McCarroll is tremendously gifted both physically and technically. She’s big, but also very mobile and is typically tasked with setting and hitting duties on the right for her teams. She can also hit from the middle and plays very good defense.
McKay will be a very intriguing one to watch after her stellar high school season with Bellville. She was a stud during the last club season as a defensive specialist, but took on hitting duties with Belville and did absolutely great. It’s still unsure in which position she’ll line up for Houston Juniors’ HJV 16 Elite, but whatever her coach’s choice is, be sure McKay will deliver a tremendously reliable backcourt game and impressive production from the service line.
