The newest Nebraska 2024 rankings have brought some big names back into the spotlight, a many of these players will loom large in Chicago later this summer. Our post-update coverage feels like a good venue to start talking about some potential breakout candidates. And, among Nebraska’s 2024s, the liberos have perhaps the best chance of all to climb up the hierarchy.
So, let’s peruse those new rankings to find some 2024 liberos who are poised for a big outing at GJNC.
Premier 17 Gold’s backcourt is bolstered by a wealth of high-caliber D1 talent. Hausmann is one of those with an incredibly important role, and the Creighton commit has reached a new gear in 17s action. Her lights-out serving during this year’s Northern Lights Qualifier gave 17 Gold a major boost en route to an Open bid. That, of course, goes in conjunction with Hausmann’s lockdown floor defense and solid serve receive. If 17 Gold’s backcourt finds a groove this summer, the team will surely be a Nationals frontrunner.
Guthard has shouldered just about any DS role imaginable during her prep career, but this year’s club season has offered a testament to how much she can thrive in the libero jersey. She is the clear backcourt leader for Premier 17 Red, a team that doesn’t have many subs to spare for defensive specialists to play alongside the libero. But, this helps demonstrate just how much faith 17 Red has in its standout leader, and Guthard has taken full advantage of her time in the spotlight.
We’ve mentioned before that Wolf is a huge sparkplug for her Premier 17 Black squad. Her team has undergone some personnel changes in its backcourt this year, but that hasn’t stopped Wolf from standing out. Rather, Wolf has shown her range by taking on just about any DS role possible and excelling the whole way. Nationals will be an important venue for this libero, but the upcoming fall season with Elkhorn North might be even more exciting.
Boyd was a catalyst for Lincoln East state tournament breakthrough last fall. She reads opposing hitters incredibly well, and that might have something to do with Boyd’s own background as an outside hitter. Plug in this multi-talented athlete into the middle-back area and watch her take over the end line with ease. Don’t be afraid to keep her in the frontcourt, either.
You may know Evert from her wicked frontcourt attacks with Gothenburg. Indeed, she was a primary kill producer for the Swedes as the team reached its first-ever state volleyball title match. But Nebraska Pride exhibited a different wrinkle to Evert’s game this spring as she took on colossal defensive responsibilities at the libero spot. Transitioning between these two roles can be difficult for some players who are mostly accustomed to attacking, but Evert is versatile enough to make the move worthwhile. This is one of Nebraska’s best small-town gems.
This feature would not be complete with addressing one of the best from Nebraska’s 2024 class. Frame’s career progression has been fascinating to follow, both in her tenures with Gretna and Premier Nebraska. The 2023 club season has offered a stark reminder of how this Cincinnati can effortlessly lock down the backcourt and instantly fill in any gaps that appear to be open. Frame and 17 Gold know what it’s like to compete under the bright lights of GJNC, but this year’s trip offers new challenges and different storylines.
Hoos is an unexpected addition to this feature. Her work with Grand Island Senior High has proven that she can be a high-level terminator. But as Nebraska Pride Gold 17s fought for its spot at Nationals, we saw Hoos anchor the backcourt with some outstanding middle-back defense and serve receive. Club competition has brought Hoos’s defensive skills to the forefront, offering optimism that she will remain a six-rotation standout with the Islanders this fall.
