You could realistically expand the Norris combos to a trio, or even a quartet. We’ll hone in on Piening and Hausmann for this one.
Both have been key components to the massive DS platoon that Norris has on its roster. Hausmann, a Creighton commit, has wielded an incredibly effective serve to spark huge Titan scoring runs. That game-changing impact also encapsulates Piening’s game, as the Nebraska Wesleyan commit is bringing excellent passing and floor defense to the equation. This impenetrable senior duo has made its mark.

Premier 17 Gold’s backcourt is bolstered by a wealth of high-caliber D1 talent. Hausmann is one of those with an incredibly important role, and the Creighton commit has reached a new gear in 17s action. Her lights-out serving during this year’s Northern Lights Qualifier gave 17 Gold a major boost en route to an Open bid. That, of course, goes in conjunction with Hausmann’s lockdown floor defense and solid serve receive. If 17 Gold’s backcourt finds a groove this summer, the team will surely be a Nationals frontrunner.

Hausmann has an uncanny ability to deliver in tense situations. Perhaps that’s a product of how many high-stakes matches she’s played in for Norris and Premier Nebraska. We got a firsthand reminder of that clutch factor when Hausmann served out the match to give 17 Gold a third-place finish and a Nationals bid at January’s Northern Lights Qualifier. Clearly, more big moments are yet to come for Hausmann and her team.

Hausmann stepped up when the team needed it most. Perhaps the most dramatic moment of the weekend was Premier 17 Gold’s winner-take-all match against Rockwood Thunder to decide the third 17 Open bid. A huge comeback in the deciding third set was keynoted by Hausmann’s fearless serving and back-to-back aces to bring up match point. Don’t tell me defensive specialists can’t make winning plays.

Hausmann really began to find her stride late in the 2022 club season, lifting her Premier 16 Gold to an incredible top-3 finish at USAV Nationals. Her role is bound to expand even more this year with a few DS shuffles happening around the Premier gym. In short, 2023 is a big year for Hausmann.
