Below are additional names of players who stood out in the Battle of Bethesda. Their team may not have gotten to the gold bracket but the players still impressed.

Churchill Bulldogs

[player_tooltip player_id='306543' first='Sherry' last='Ye'] and [player_tooltip player_id='235749' first='Kareena' last='Rathnam'] (Libero/DS) - They are teammates for MVSA and remain teammates at the high school level. Not surprisingly the two share the libero jersey for both teams. For both their defense stands out as their strength. They rank 20 and 22 in our class of 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='397548' first='Sonia' last='Breslawec'] (outside) - She lists at 5'10" and swings hard. She can also vary her attack with a nice change of pace roll shot from the back row. A six rotation player who ranks number 71 in our class of 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='346818' first='Charlotte' last='Deraleau'] and [player_tooltip player_id='438053' first='Lucille' last='Deraleau'] (setter and right side) - Charlotte sets for the Bulldogs in a 6/2. She brings a good serve to the court. Lucy hits right side, sometimes developing her approach with a one foot take off. Despite that, she still made our all frosh team. Charlotte was added to our 2026 rankings this past summer, slotting in at 116. Lucy lists at 5'7" and ranks at number 36 in our class of 2027.

[player_tooltip player_id='465322' first='Siyena' last='Fitsum'] (middle) - Siyena also made our all frosh team. While she is not ranked, we took note of her play in the non-bid Chesapeake Regional championship. She has some length and hits quick sets well.

Holy Cross Tartans

Bess McIntyre (left side) - When it came play off time this frosh got the call to hit left side opposite [player_tooltip player_id='180288' first='Emerson' last='Sellman']. She produced a couple key hits to lead the Tartans to the championship. While listed at 5'9" there remains hope for some growth.

[player_tooltip player_id='238376' first='Anasofia' last='Zanellato'] (setter) - At 6'0" she brings some height to the setting position. The sophomore still needs a tad more polish but shows a ton of potential. Holy Cross chose to go to a 5/1 during the playoffs, going with the experience of [player_tooltip player_id='244159' first='Jaylyn' last='Simon']. AnaSofia ranks number 31 in our class of 2026. Last year she played for Madison and set for Virginia Juniors.

Richard Montgomery Rockets

[player_tooltip player_id='309030' first='Corinne' last='Howard'] Middle/left side) - Good to see her playing again. She missed much of the club season last year. The 5'11 junior is extremely athletic, playing both basketball and volleyball. For this tournament Corinne spent most of her time at middle, but she also hit outside. Her timing hitting outside still needs to gain more consistency, but that will come with increased repetitions. She ranks number 29 in our class of 2026.

Walter Johnson Wildcats

[player_tooltip player_id='478769' first='Ariel' last='Mazor'] (Middle) - Loved her play in the middle. She was the only player not to play for a team that did not qualify for gold to make the all tournament team. Ariel hits the quicks well and gets her hands over the net to also block well. She leads her team in both kills and blocks. Last year she played club ball at MVSA.

Sofia Silberfield (setter) - Sofia also plays at MVSA. She showed good hands setting a 5/1. The junior was tabbed as an honorable mention on the Montgomery County all county team last year.

[player_tooltip player_id='696412' first='Stella' last='Lichter'] (left side) - She hits the ball well enough that the Holy Cross coach moved [player_tooltip player_id='180288' first='Emerson' last='Sellman'] to the right side in an effort to slow down her hitting. Her defense also impressed in the back row. At 5'10" she brings some height to the pins. Another player linked to the MVSA Fusion team.

Clarksburg Coyotes

[player_tooltip player_id='517920' first='Lena' last='McCarthy'] libero) - Lena stood out with her libero play. What impressed most about her play was her setter hands during out of system plays. Last year the senior played well enough to earn honorable mention on the Montgomery County team. She played club ball for Metro North.

[player_tooltip player_id='438058' first='Vivian' last='Ngan'] (setter) - Made the all frosh team as a setter. Good hands but her height will limit her to a 6/2. Vivian ranks number 19 in our class of 2027. She also plays for MVSA.

Hillary Malik (left side) - A smaller hitter on the left side. The senior played all six rotations. Her highlight reel for the day was her dig of an [player_tooltip player_id='180288' first='Emerson' last='Sellman'] spike that resulted in a point and a massive celebration from her teammates.

Whitman

[player_tooltip player_id='325599' first='Raegan' last='Lentz'] (left side) - Raegan plays middle for MVSA Charge and ranks number 6 in our class of 2026. For the Vikings she hit outside, pounding balls to the floor. She stands 6'0" which would make her a terror at the pin once she finds her timing. The sophomore only played three rotations in the sets I witnessed.

[player_tooltip player_id='529444' first='Kathryn' last='Giesecke'] (middle) - Perhaps I should have considered her for my all frosh team. That was a bit of an oversight. Kathryn played a solid middle for the Vikings and deserved a presence there. Last year she played club ball at Virginia Juniors..

Chesapeake Chirps - Riverbend had a big 5 set win over Colonial Forge to take a two game lead in the Commonwealth Region. They had played earlier in the season and Riverbend beat the Eagles in four.,,, First Colonial also took a big five set win over Kellam to take a two game lead in the Beach Region. Kellam won the first two sets, but the Patriots bounced back to take the next three.
