The event will feature five divisions (17 Open, 18 American, 18 Liberty, 18 Open and 18 USA) and as many as 219 teams will be in action competing for spots at the 2024 USA Volleyball Girls National Championship.
The state of Texas will be represented in each of the five divisions as 29 teams will make the trip to Pennsylvania this weekend and will take the days leading to the event to highlight some of the players from the Lone Star State that will be on the court. We start with the setters:
Brown will be setting for AJV 17 Adidas in the 17 Open division. She’s a top-tier setter in her class in the state of Texas and her talent on the ball elevates her team’s offense significantly. Brown is extremely technical and you can notice that in each step of her setting routine as she uses her excellent footwork to get on the ball and her great touch to send the ball to the desired location. She’s also a very smart player, who runs the offense with great intelligence and makes excellent decisions, even when under pressure.
Brelee Mauldin
Brelee Mauldin
Mauldin and her 1United 18 Elite Blue team will appear in the 18 American division. She’s a very complete player, who helps her team with more than her setting abilities. Mauldin has good size, standing at 5’10”, and has a solid presence at the net, but is also very mobile and efficient when playing defense. She has good precision with her sets and does a very good job of using her height to accelerate the game. Mauldin has been developing her game very quickly over the last few months and made it to the High School State All-Tournament team with Gunter.
With Warren calling the shots, Austin Skyline 18 Royal will battle in the 18 Liberty division in Philadelphia. She’s very creative with the way she runs the team’s offense and her tremendous quality on the ball opens up all sorts of possibilities for her in that area of the game. Another thing I love about Warren’s game is how well she uses her impressive athletic tools to compensate for her limited size. She can be really difficult to read when setting and also adds a lot to her team from a mental standpoint, with good decisions and a calm attitude on the court even in moments of pressure.
Musgrove will be with Houston Skyline 18 Royal as they navigate the challenging 18 Open division. The top-ranked player in her position in her age group in our Class of 2025 Prep Dig State Rankings, she’s playing one age group up and is still a difference-maker for her team. Musgrove checks all the boxes when you think of an elite setter as she has the size, the skills and the mental solidness to do everything she’s asked on the court and more. Her setting is very smooth and she thrives by keeping all her hitters involved – which is not a big challenge considering the high level of her offensive options with 18 Royal. A lefty, Musgrove also serves well and takes up hitting duties with great efficiency at the net.
Highlights
Crowson and her HJV 18 Elite team will play in the 18 Open division. She splits playing time with Taryn Gilreath Taryn Gilreath 6’0″ | S Cy Ranch | 2024 State TX and the two will probably form one of the top setter duos in the division. Crowson is very complete and has the ability to help her team in a variety of ways. Her sets are always precise and well-thought as she has a great feel for the game and that shows in her distribution. Crowson has good size and is very effective at the net too, but is probably even more valuable on the backcourt, serving tough and playing great defense.
