Yesterday, we expanded our scope among the Class of 2026 standouts at last weekend’s Prep Dig Midwest Live Showcase. We’re ready to apply that same theme to the 2027s, a group well-represented on the event’s entry list. Friday’s action revealed a bright future full of stars from across the Iowa Region and beyond.
So, let’s give you a few more names to know from this up-and-coming class.
Seaman presents some surprising physicality at the net, making her seem taller than the height we have listed in our database. This means she can run a 5-1 offense without giving up any blocking deficits in her frontcourt rotations. We also saw Seaman thrive as an attacker during warmup drills, so don’t discount this setter’s natural athleticism. Iowa Rockets has a good one.
Setters will play a big part in this 2027 feature. Vanden Hull was another strong performer at this position who proved her worthiness to play around the dial. Her effective blocking technique helped generate positive touches during team drills–an underrated skill among frontcourt setters. Those defensive contributions extended to the backcourt as Vanden Hull locked down the right-back area. Setting is not the only strength of Vander Hull’s game.

We’ll keep harping on Waukee Northwest’s impressive group of showcase participants. Edgington brought her high-flying style to last weekend’s event and was a force on the right pin. She gets her feet to the ball and drives through it with impressive velocity. Her major role with Iowa PowerPlex set the stage for a strong showcase performance, so look out for Edgington this fall.

Grover delivered on our high expectations heading into this event. The Indianola prep star earned a shoutout in our previews and promptly backed that up with a dominant showcase outing. Team dynamics changed whenever Grover rotated into the frontcourt and took over with her shutdown blocking. Grover has also developed into an effective transition attacker who works hard to make herself available.

Risk adds to the long list of intimidating outside hitters from the Ankeny area. She combines a quick, fluid approach with her colossal reach to hit some indefensible angles. Friday’s showcase also allowed Risk to transition between pins without losing her rhythm. This makes Risk the ideal L1 who can convert on tough swings in any situation.

Sweers has been a past standout at Prep Dig events and brought another gem for the Midwest Live Showcase. Her athleticism became apparent as she sprawled out for incredible defensive plays along the end line. Of course, Sweers can also wield her quick right arm in the front row and had an efficient evening in Des Moines. Iowa Select is surely excited to build around this impressive 2027 prospect.
There’s Waukee Northwest again. Davis’ savvy distribution consistently boosted her side of the net during team drills. She locates the ball well and has a knack for finding the hot hand. This forms the core of a setter’s skill set, but Davis goes above and beyond the minimum requirements. She also revealed her vocal leadership skills while competing with some unfamiliar faces. Showcases are always a fascinating test for this position group.

Why not close out with one more setter? Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School gets on the board with one of its talented setters from the 2027 class. Haller dished out some quick tempos at our showcase, generating split-block chances for her teammates. This is also an agile floor defender who becomes an extraordinary asset in three-hitter rotations. We wanted to get setters involved in these features, and the 2027 class gave us a lot to talk about.
