As Wave 2 of USAV Nationals rolls on, we're looking back on some of Nebraska's top performers from the first group. Wave 1 highlighted 16s and 17s, and we've already brought 17s setters into the spotlight. Let's stick with the same position group for this one.

If you're looking for an up-and-coming position group from Nebraska's Class of 2026, the setters in GJNC's 16s wave had ample talent. Here's the breakdown.

2024 is shaping up to be a transformative year for Booth. The Elkhorn North standout's precision and finesse were apparent as Premier Nebraska 16 Gold clinched a runner-up finish at April's Show Me Qualifier. This wasn't the end of the journey, of course, and 16 Gold made a deep run through the 16 Open field in Las Vegas. Booth combines her natural setting skills with unmatched defensive prowess in Zone 1. She now looks to be the heir apparent to her older sister at Elkhorn North, a program rocketing to prominence in Class B. Full speed ahead.

Miller has dramatically elevated her stock during this year's club season with Premier Nebraska 16 Black. She has an extensive background as a defensive specialist but has carved out a full-time setting role on the club side. Miller can effortlessly push the ball from pin to pin, even when she's not given an ideal pass along the net. 16 Black's high-powered offense rolled through the Great Plains Region Bid Tournament and had more flashes of brilliance in a tough 16 National division. This Gretna athlete will keep rising in the fall.

Faust didn't take long to make an impression when she arrived on the 15s scene last year. Her consistent leadership catalyzed Premier Nebraska's 15 USA bid last year, and Faust was back in the spotlight in 2024. 16 Black has so many lineup options given Faust's ability to thrive in any rotation. She presents a physical block for opposing left-side hitters and becomes a legitimate attacking threat as a frontcourt setter. Faust will also participate in a 6-2 and provide seamless transitions between her and Miller. It's no wonder why Faust is earning plenty of reps at USAV Nationals.

This multi-position standout from Nebraska Christian has seen the GJNC stage before. Perdew piloted the South Central NE offense to a podium finish in 2023, and history repeated itself this year. Perhaps her background as a left-side hitter gives Perdew an innate ability to connect with her 16 Black teammates. Either way, Perdew has fully bought into South Central NE's multi-dimensional offense that uses unique patterns to gain an advantage. She commanded 16 Black's system with poise and aggression, leading to another berth in the Liberty semifinals.

Perdew is not the only outside-setter hybrid on South Central NE 16 Black's roster. We've seen Andel take over high school matches with her high-volume scoring for David City. But, like Perdew, Andel embraces a setter role with South Central NE and knows how to keep its high-octane attack flowing. She wielded a quick tempo to the outsides and became more comfortable with her backcourt sets at GJNC. These developments allowed 16 Black's hitters to exploit split-block opportunities and terminate with authority--just as Andel can do on the high school stage.

Setters were a major discussion topic as we examined [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Elite's GJNC prospects. Bearden has been a worthy addition to the 2024 roster and adds a lot of flexibility to the starting rotation. Even if she's not playing across the front row, Bearden can find ways to make an indispensable impact with 16 Elite. This Lincoln Southeast athlete was particularly effective when setting the middles, giving [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] an unstoppable in-system offense during opening-round pools. This year's high school season will be a fascinating one as Lincoln's setter landscape undergoes a significant shift.

Stevens was plugged into the Premier Nebraska 16 Silver lineup this year and has excelled with her new squad. We highlighted some of 16 Silver's high-profile successes, including a Gold bracket appearance at Show Me. This set Stevens up for another fabulous performance in GJNC's 16 Patriot division. She used her Vegas stay to demonstrate how much she has grown as a distributor and a floor defender. Balanced ball control became a core strength for 16 Silver with Stevens leading the charge during late-season action.
