What a day for the veterans.

The top Saturday group at the Allison Weston Invitational featured Class A frontrunners Omaha Westside, Papillion-La Vista South, and Lincoln Southwest. We already gave a comprehensive recap of the day, but let's give a nod to the standout athletes.

Impactful seniors were all over the floor in this one. If any of these three squads hoist the Class A trophy at the end of the year, these Class of 2025 stars will be a big part of it.

Paymal is the kind of hitter who can neutralize even the best defenses. Saturday's matches served as a reminder of the sharp, indefensible angles Paymal can create on the right pin. The Warriors can also mix up where Paymal is attacking, making her attacking weapon on crossing patterns and combination plays. The Creighton commit racked up 15 kills against Lincoln Southwest and bested that total with 17 against Papio South. This is who you lean on in these intense battles.

Miller has been an unsung hero throughout her career with Westside, but it's impossible to ignore her production in 2024. She hits with amazing range on the left side and has become the perfect complement to Paymal on the other pin. Miller amassed double-digit kills in Saturday's championship tilt with Papio South and hit a whopping 0.600 in the contest. Her dig totals are also rising, revealing Miller's ability to be a six-rotation force. This progression will be key to Westside's title aspirations.

Gaughen commanded the Westside offense last weekend and always seemed to locate the hot hitter. Westside has plenty of attackers who can take over a match, but Gaughen's impact as a steady setter cannot be overlooked. She competed well in a 5-1 system while blocking against some of Class A's best left-side attackers. Saturday's championship effort was proof that Westside can keep winning with multiple setters--a true sign of adaptability and resilience.

Papio South doesn't have many seniors on its roster, but quality supersedes quantity. Solomon is the focal point of everything the Titans do. The Jacksonville State commit is Papio South's primary setter, and she delivers crisp balls with pace to all of her attackers. However, Solomon also shoulders a major frontcourt attacking role and can hit from any zone along the net. She can effectively become a left-side hitter in the front row--a rare sight at the prep level. In short, this senior does anything to win.

Brodersen has a knack for turning the tides as a serving specialist. She has embraced this role in Papio South's starting lineup and brought so much value whenever she stepped behind the line. Brodersen also defends her spot well, allowing Papio South to transition and keep the service run alive. We'll likely see more from this do-everything athlete as the Titans embark on the October grind.

Harding is back and hasn't slowed down since her breakout 2023 season. The veteran outside hitter has led LSW with over three kills per set this year and reclaimed that featured role at the Allison Weston Invite. Harding is a perfect fit for Southwest's up-tempo offense, as she gets on top of the ball quickly and can hammer through open seams. Her ball control has also progressed, allowing Harding to showcase her passing prowess against the state's toughest servers.

During last year's championship run, Lincoln Southwest had two senior middle blockers in its starting lineup. This has opened the door for Schuster to become a new go-to attacker in 2024. She has stepped into the lineup and provided many of the same all-around skills we've seen from Schuster at Nebraska Juniors. Her lateral quickness helps close blocks from pin to pin, and it also helps open up LSW's slide attacks. Schuster's effectiveness in front of the setter was particularly helpful during Saturday's gauntlet, and it's no wonder why this middle blocker leads LSW's efficiency metric at 0.305.

Most conversations on liberos start with floor defense or passing, but we're going against the grain with Kremer. This senior's most significant trait might be her aggressive serving. Kremer has distinguished herself as one of Class A's most feared servers and went on huge scoring runs in Saturday's matches. She leads the Silver Hawks with 0.6 aces per set but will give teams fits even if no ace is registered. Of course, we were also dazzled by Kremer's lockdown defense, especially on crosscourt attacks. LSW has its unquestioned backcourt leader.
