The transition can be even more difficult when you're a ninth-grader on a varsity sport. Deferring to the veterans is natural. It's why we often see these youngsters make great strides in club.

Back with their own age group, they've built confidence during the prep campaign. They're more experienced and physically stronger.

I caught Alexander in action at the 2025 Northern Lights Qualifier. She impressed with her all-around volleyball skill set. Alexander shines the most from the outside pin with her big swing. She can defend at the net with height and long arms. Alexander holds up well in the back row, too. With her frame and athleticism, Alexander could work in the middle of the net or on the right side. There's a lot of talent here if she continues working and developing.

Steinkamp stood out when I scouted her at the 2025 Northern Lights Qualifier. She delivers a big attack from the outside pin, elevating and generating power from her right-handed swing. Steinkamp saw some time on the Dallas Center-Grimes varsity as a freshman in 2024. With how she's playing this club season, she should be a bigger contributor for the Mustangs during the next prep campaign.

German stood out to me shortly into my scouting opportunity at the 2025 Northern Lights Qualifier. She's a really good athlete that succeeded through six rotations. German makes up for not being a tall outside hitter with explosion off of the court and a big swing. She's quick in the back row, moves well laterally and shows quick reflexes. German saw action on the Urbandale varsity last season and should move into a bigger role in 2025.

I scouted Suhr multiple times during the 2025 club season. There's a lot to like about her game. Versatility is strength as Suhr is effective on the outside and the middle of the net. She could hit right-side if requested. Suhr's swing is whip-like and generates a lot of pace. She takes what the defense gives her on the attack and is a good defender in the front row. Suhr delivered 167 kills (.301) and 63.0 blocks as a Williamsburg freshman last year.

Hodge shined when I watched her play in-person at the 2025 Quad Cities Showdown. She's a versatile performer capable of contributing all around the court. Hodge fits best in the back row, where her athleticism, sharp reactions and lateral quickness make her effective. Assumption graduated four of its top five digs leaders from last season, so the door is open for Piper to help the varsity as a sophomore next year.

Schneider ranked second in kills (249) as a freshman on a Union team that reached a regional final last season. She did so hitting .233. Schneider proved she's a two-way performer by coming up with a team-best 86.0 blocks. She continued making strides in her development this club season. Athleticism and long arms are two of Schneider's top traits. She's agile and has a good overall feel for the game.
