Katelyn Oerlemans Katelyn Oerlemans 6'0" | MB/OH Marymount | 2027 State CA is learning a new position in her last playoff run.

Oerlemans, a Stanford beach commit, grew up in Holland and speaks fluent Dutch. At Durango in September, she said she was playing back row for the first time and wanted to improve her defense. She was also a Durango All-Tournament selection in 2025.

Katelyn’s Voice
“Learning how to play back row as a middle has definitely been extremely challenging and a big learning curve. It hasn’t been a steady improvement, and there are some games and practices that go well, and some that really don’t. But overall, I think it has taught me a lot about myself as a player both mentally and physically. My coaches and players have been very supportive and helpful, making it an easier adjustment and a fun experience. This playoff being my last one at Marymount is very bittersweet. The past three years, this time is always my favorite part of the season because you never know if the game you’re playing will be the last, so everyone is going all out, giving 100% focus and effort. We have put in so much work to prepare this past month especially, and I really hope that it is apparent in these next three games. I can’t wait to play tomorrow and enjoy some of the possible last games as a Sailor!!”

She is honest about the process, saying it has not been a steady improvement, and that candor shows maturity. A middle willing to learn the back row and talk openly about the lows is easy for a coach to trust.

Katelyn Oerlemans Katelyn Oerlemans 6'0" | MB/OH Marymount | 2027 State CA is a matchup problem in transition. She beats the block from both angles, left and right, and does it from the back row just as easily as the front. She has a gift for finding the one seam in the court the defense left open, and she exploited it over and over against Marin Catholic.

Katelyn Oerlemans Committed: Stanford (Beach Volleyball

This is Katelyn’s fourth time playing Durango, and she wants to close it out the right way. “Durango has always been my favorite tournament to play in, and I want to close out my fourth time playing there with a bang by having fun with my teammates and playing our best against other really talented teams,” she said.

Hitting has always been her most consistent skill, the one she’s worked on the longest. This year brings a new challenge though. She’s playing back row for the first time, and defense is where she’s putting in the extra work.

She holds herself and her team accountable, pushing everyone to climb out of a hole when things aren’t going well, and that accountability is part of what makes her a natural leader. What she hopes shows up most on film isn’t a stat. It’s the fun she’s having with her best friends and her love for the game itself.

Recently transitioning from indoor to beach, she’s committed to continue her volleyball career at Stanford, chasing continued growth and confidence on the sand.

Off the court, she’s from Holland and speaks fluent Dutch.
