Before the first serve of the Durango Fall Classic even drops, the nation's best programs got a preview night to settle scores and set the tone. That's exactly what Clash of the Champions, hosted by Bishop Gorman coach Gregg Nunley, delivered last night in Las Vegas. Several nationally ranked California programs made the trip, and while the headlines will focus on final scores, the real story is in the players quietly building their case for college coaches watching from the stands.

This is not a recap of who won. This is my look at who separated themselves, who showed poise under pressure, and who is putting together the kind of habits that translate at the next level. Some of these names are already committed. Others are just getting started. All of them made it clear why California volleyball continues to set the standard heading into Durango.

Marin Catholic dropped a tight four-set battle to Marymount, but a handful of Wildcats made it clear this roster has real weapons heading into Durango.

[player_tooltip player_id='533581' first='Kalea' last='Lee'] runs this Mater Dei offense with poise. As a senior setter for the No. 2 team in the country, she directs traffic with control and keeps her hitters in rhythm through long, high-pressure rallies. She creates easy swings for a stacked attack, and her ability to distribute the ball across multiple weapons is a big reason Mater Dei's offense looks unpredictable from set to set.

Marin Catholic
Marin Catholic dropped a tight four-set battle to Marymount, but a handful of Wildcats made it clear this roster has real weapons heading into Durango.

Marin Catholic | 2027 CA runs this offense with a touch as soft as butter. Her delivery is controlled, and she keeps her hitters in rhythm even in out-of-system. Defensively, she gets to her spot early and stays there. Rania brought a short, tricky float serve that gave Marymount fits all night. She sets up her right side block beautifully and knows exactly when to turn on her offense with a well-timed dump. Uncommitted and still working, she's the kind of setter a coach can rely on.

Emilia Cisneros (14) brought consistency that Marin Catholic leaned on all match. She stayed locked in offensively in both rows, and her swing looked the same in set one as it did in set four against a Marymount squad that was hunting for cracks. That kind of steadiness is exactly what college coaches want to see from a hitter under pressure. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247

(10) reads the block as well as anyone on this roster, and she used that IQ to find her openings from the outside all night. She doesn't force swings. She waits, reads, and picks her spot, and that patience is a habit that scales at every level. ~ Michelle Bamford @Coachable247
Marymount
Marymount stormed back from dropping the opener to take the next three sets from Marin Catholic, and this group showed exactly why they're a fixture in California's top tier heading into Durango.

brings the kind of heat behind the ball that makes opposing blockers flinch. She stays completely behind her swing and uses her entire body, snapping her head through contact to generate max pop on every attack.…
Brooke Salo finds a way around the block and hits with real follow through, generating power even when the angle isn't there for her. Her serve found the ace with regularity, and every contact carried a fierce snap behind it. When plays broke down and the ball came at her out of system, she handled it without blinking. As an uncommitted senior, she's putting together the kind of game that shouldn't stay unclaimed much longer.

Marymount | 2027 StateCAis a matchup problem in transition. She beats the block from both angles, left and right, and does it from the back row just as easily as the front. She has a gift for finding the one seam in the court the defense left open, and she exploited it over and over against Marin Catholic.
