Six Rotation Studs from the Varsity Sizzle: Part 1

The Sizzle was jam-packed with high-level talent from across the state, as well as from Illinois. This was such a fun event where athletes jumped onto my radar in every direction I looked. That is one of the reasons I look forward to this event every summer. Let's dive in and look at some six rotation studs from the Varsity Sizzle.    Haylin is a versatile player who can be utilized on both pins and from the back row. She is also a solid defender and serve receiver. Haylin has a competitive mindset and is the kind of athlete who is hard to take off the court. She finds ways to terminate both in and out of system and is absolutely relentless in every aspect of the game.     What makes McKaelyn so impressive is that she shows up and delivers for her team every day. I've had the opportunity to see her play a lot of volleyball, and her consistency and growth are so impressive. That takes grit and mental toughness that so few athletes have. She almost always runs a 5-1 or, at the very least, sets in the back row and swings in the front row. Her leadership and focus on the court cannot be understated; it is something most teams strive for that she brings day in and day out.     Brynn was a standout player for Sevastopol at the Sizzle. When I saw their matches, she was running a 5-1 and dominating the floor. She was a natural leader on the court, providing a great deal of consistency for her team. She had a clean touch on the ball and was always hustling around the court.     Jordyn is such a hidden gem in this class. She is gritty, talented, and well-rounded. She has impressed me over the last several years, coming to the Sizzle. Jordyn played as a setter and right side for Ottawa. She touched the ball on nearly every play, no matter what rotation they were in, and for good reason. Her ball control and court awareness were on point at the tournament, and she delivered nearly every time she touched the ball.     Liz played as a 6-rotation right side for Kiel and was one of the most impactful athletes on the court at the Sizzle. She was an energizer and leader for her team. Liz could execute offensively in the front and back row and added a lot of value on defense and serve receive as well. What stood out was her intensity and competitiveness that helped keep her team driven and focused on every play.     Ava was another 6-rotation player for Kiel who was nearly unstoppable. She showed just how impactful she could be as a senior leader. No matter if they were in or out of system, Ava put in full effort and chased down every ball. She consistently put up great sets for her hitters and spread her offense well. Ava is also an energizer who builds up her team and celebrates their big plays.     Lydia brings so much consistency and a steady hand to the court. She is a player who can place the ball where she needs it from nearly anywhere on the court. Lydia is a natural leader and is the type of athlete that younger players look to during competitive matches. Her clean touch on the ball and ability to minimize errors make her that much more impressive.     Lydia has stepped into her leadership role at Appleton North in the best way. She brings intensity and competitiveness yet delivers in every aspect of her game. I have never seen her let up on a point or not give full effort. Her court awareness sets her apart, and she reads opposing blockers well when she is setting.     Kaitlin is a steady yet explosive six-rotation pin. She can terminate consistently in the front row and has a keen eye for open spots. Kaitlin can manufacture points from nearly anywhere on the court and is not afraid to be aggressive on out-of-system balls. She is also a high-level serve receiver and defender. She reads the ball early off her opponents' hands and gets excellent touches on even the toughest balls.     Lauren is another incredibly talented pin for Waunakee. She recently committed to Notre Dame and showed just how versatile she is while at the Sizzle. In the front row, she picked apart her opponents, always seeming to find the weak points in their defense. When she was in the back row, she was quick to read in serve receive and on defense. Lauren is a low-error, high-efficiency athlete who can be relied upon to deliver no matter where she is on the court.     Harper was explosive and dominant at the Sizzle. She held nothing back throughout the event, and it was so fun to watch her unload on some balls. She has truly honed in on her game in the last year and has become a pin who could cause opponents some problems in the upcoming season.
