What Wisconsin Sophomores Are Ready To Step Up?

The sophomore year can be an interesting one.  They know the routine of high school, kids are getting their license, more responsibility, and sometimes that includes more on the volleyball court.  Here are some incoming sophomores that can be impact players this upcoming high school season.     [player_tooltip player_id='545509' first='Sylvia' last='Flood'] started her high school career off in a strong way with just under 200 kills in her freshman campaign. She followed her high school season up with a monster club season for [program_tooltip program_id='428672' first='Milwaukee' last='Sting'] 15 Black. She was a key piece to their success and run at the national tournament where she was an All Tournament honoree in the 15 National Division. Her athleticism, physicality, and all around ability was something to watch first hand. She is the type of athlete who can handle the pressure of being served at and transitioning right into attack mode. She can score from anywhere on the court and will be fun to watch for the Red Raiders this fall.     Oostburg is going to be quite the program to watch this season with plenty of returners and the addition of [player_tooltip player_id='827859' first='Soraya' last='Benton']. Benton had a big year at Howards Grove as a freshman and will be suiting up for Oostburg this season. She is an all around athlete who can score points in bunches from either pin. She had 225 kills as a freshman hitting over .200 for the season. Her swing is violent, she hits a heavy ball which makes it tough for the other side to block and defend cleanly, as her all around game expands her numbers and wins for her side will continue to climb as well.     [player_tooltip player_id='545532' first='Rose' last='Kendall'] is going to be a problem for the other side of the net this fall. She is an explosive attacker from the right side. With a big left handed swing, she knows how to create favorable angles for herself where she can hit hard cross, deep line, or high off the hands. Xavier kicks their season off with Battle of the Valley in Appleton on Tuesday and will head down to the Joust on Friday. There is a lot of youth on this team with a talented sophomore class, but watch out for the Hawks this season.     Franklin is going to be looking for the point scoring and defensive ability from Marx this upcoming season where she will be a go to player for the Sabres. She is an electric six rotation outside hitter who can handle a high volume in serve receive, can pass to attack, and flat out score. As a freshman she had over 300 kills and 250 digs.     Babiash had a huge freshman year for Waupun. She had nearly 700 assists and nearly 300 digs for a breakout year. What is the strongest about her game is how well rounded she is. She will find ways to put her teammates in position for success whether that's with the first or second contact. This season she can take a more offensive role where she can look to score points on her own as well.     What a fun athlete. [player_tooltip player_id='587079' first='Quinn' last='Ische'] made a huge impact for a state final four team at Menomonee Falls as a freshman. She had nearly 200 kills and triple digits in assists and digs. She is a six rotation player who can do whatever her team needs. For her [program_tooltip program_id='428672' first='Milwaukee' last='Sting'] club team she is a setter who can find the favorable matchup for her attackers and for Falls this year she could play multiple roles for the Phoenix.     [player_tooltip player_id='554786' first='Piper' last='Moyer'] was a joy to watch this past club season for [program_tooltip program_id='428662' first='Wisconsin' last='Ice'] where she played up an age group and she will be a player to know in [program_tooltip program_id='428569' first='Central' last='Wisconsin']. She preps for Adams Friendship where they will be in the hunt for a South Central Conference title. She led the team with over 250 kills as a freshman and will be one others have to know where she is at each rotation because she will score from the front and backrow.     What a freshman year for [player_tooltip player_id='830663' first='Brynn' last='Swenson']. She was a key piece to the state tournament run to the D4 semifinals at Mineral Point. With over 250 kills, she knows how to mix up her shots with line, cross, and high hands. With her athletic ability, she knows how to adjust to take what the defense gives her. Mineral Point has a lot of key pieces back from 2024 and will be in the hunt again for 2025.     What an athlete. Candler can do a little bit of everything where she can defend, set, and score points. For Luther Prep out of Watertown she is a definite point scorer where she was one of the top kill leaders among freshmen. She tallied over 300 kills and over 100 digs. She plays her club ball at Madtown where that off season experience will definitely add to her all around game this fall where Luther Prep will be one to watch in D3.
