Five teams that make cases for super regionals

Use code GrahamPD25 to register</em>.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 6th Region decided to forego district tournaments this year and let every team play in the region tournament for a super regional. This made sure no good teams got left out of the region tournament. These five teams make good cases for their respective regions to follow suit after they lost in the district semifinals of tough districts and did not get to partake in the region tournament.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Bishop Brossart Mustangs (24-11)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Mustangs hoped to drive back to the region championship after falling short of the crown a year ago. Calvary Christian gave Bishop Brossart a scare in a 3-2 loss during the regular season then pulled off the big win in the 37th District semifinals.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The good news for Mustangs is they pretty much return everyone with only two seniors on the roster. They are led by [player_tooltip player_id='587827' first='Grace' last='Frommeyer'], [player_tooltip player_id='515259' first='Callie' last='Ritter'], Hayley Heitker and [player_tooltip player_id='484451' first='Aubrey' last='Rebholz']. Bishop Brossart also returns some talented young players in [player_tooltip player_id='885299' first='Evelyn' last='Laker'], [player_tooltip player_id='891600' first='Audrey' last='Arnold'], [player_tooltip player_id='885509' first='Emma' last='Sheanshang'] and Jayna Wilson.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Holy Cross (Covington) Indians (20-14)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Indians have not been to the district tournament since 2022 playing in a rough district with four-time defending region champion Notre Dame and last year's All "A" State champion Beechwood. The Indians had just one senior this past season in [player_tooltip player_id='212391' first='Olivia' last='McHenry'].</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='484458' first='Lucy' last='Lenihan'] will be back at setter for her senior season along with the talented [player_tooltip player_id='731693' first='Lacey' last='Hunt']. [player_tooltip player_id='816874' first='Maya' last='Hayden'] and [player_tooltip player_id='817590' first='Paige' last='Arlinghaus'] give the Indians two solid options in the middle. [player_tooltip player_id='795019' first='Jordyn' last='Timmerding'] and [player_tooltip player_id='612183' first='Avery' last='Sturgeon'] lead the Indians on defense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>South Warren Spartans (20-11)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Spartans play in the rugged 14th District that Bowling Green has won five years in a row. They've had to battle Greenwood to make it out of the district tournament and fell short of that this year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>South Warren graduates seven seniors including [player_tooltip player_id='450941' first='Zoie' last='Elrod'] and [player_tooltip player_id='771037' first='Allie' last='Chesnut']. However, [player_tooltip player_id='822468' first='Autumn' last='Gaines'], [player_tooltip player_id='771806' first='Hannah' last='Lambert'] and [player_tooltip player_id='774159' first='Piper' last='Gregory'] return.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Russell County Lakers (24-12)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Lakers have had the top seed in the 16th District the past two seasons, but have not been able to make it out of the district semifinals. Monroe County beat the Lakers in that round this year.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>First year head coach Kaitlyn Coffey and staff see five seniors graduate. However, the Lakers do return the top two hitters in Cadence Rager, Piper Garmon, setter [player_tooltip player_id='778285' first='Madelyn' last='Roy'] along with Kaelyn Campbell and [player_tooltip player_id='812171' first='Carigann' last='Carpenter'] on defense.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Mayfield Cardinals (19-7)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Cardinals put together a nice season. However, they struggled in 3rd District play going just 1-5 against district rivals Ballard Memorial and Graves County. Three seniors graduate including top hitter [player_tooltip player_id='594634' first='Sydney' last='Wright']. One can't say enough about her hitting accuracy from the back row. She's turned into a reliable option at all six spots on the court. She makes sound passes and has good spin on her serves. She has a good platform and has shown she can track down hard hit balls and tips. Her enthusiasm is noticeable on the court. Sturgeon makes a lot of things happen with her serves. She has a quick arm swing and has great timing on her blocks. Gaines has shown she can handle sound swings from great hitters. She is not afraid to shove balls off blocks for points. She only lunges when needed, but still delivers good two to three-point passes to get the Russell County offense in a good flow. Carpenter did not take many swings, but with key hitters graduating, that could change her senior year. She sets dimes consistently to put her teammates in good position to put balls down. Flowers has good technique on her swings. Flowers is especially tough on crosses. She makes quality first touches and slides well at the net trying to at least get hands on balls if not blocking them.
