I've been fortunate to write about a lot really good volleyball witnessed this club season. It's reaffirmed that the talent in this state continues to rise.

That said, there's a lot more of you than me. It really does help when video highlights are posted on the various platforms. I can catch up on your progress and file new or updated reports until watching in-person again.

Here's a collection of reports on uncommitted Iowa 2027s based on the viewing of film:

Hogan enjoyed a super junior season this past fall in helping Beckman Catholic reach the state tournament. She led the Trailblazers with 506 digs. Her 75 assists speak to her ability to control the two ball and deliver to the pins. I saw Hogan at the state tournament and again in January at the Rochester M1 Elite Scrimmages. That CIA 17 Black team went on to secure a Freedom Division bid to the USAV National Tournament this summer in Indianapolis. Hogan flashes quick reflexes in the back row. She moves well laterally and covers a lot of the court. Hogan can deaden the pace of the attack and turn it into accurate passes. She puts herself in position to make plays by reading the opposition and tracking the ball well. A potent service game also leads to positive results for her team. Hogan is a strong leader in the back row and communicates well with teammates.

When scouting Pollack, consistency can be expected. She's fundamentally sound with a knack for delivering the smart play. I saw that last club season, at the state tournament and again earlier this club campaign. Pollock ran the show for a CIA 17 Black outfit that picked up a Freedom Division bid to this summer's USAV national tournament with its play at the Iowa regional tournament earlier this month. A fluid conduit between the back-row pass and the team's potent attack, and a good athlete with a high volleyball IQ, Pollock moves smoothly around the court and gets into position for the pass. Vision and a good feel for match flow aids in delivering the ball to attackers with the best chance to put it down. It also helps in picking the proper times to dump the ball over the net. Pollock holds up well defensively in the back row and can throw up an effective block.

Kooima has played a key role in helping Western Christian reach the Class 3A state semifinals the last two seasons. Two years ago, she stood out as a DS on the Wolfpack's state runner-up squad. Kooima wore the jersey this past campaign for a 38-10 team. Her work in the back row helped Salty 17s secure an American Division bid at USAV Nationals with a third-place finish at the Iowa Regionals a few weeks ago. Kooiman is a winner, first and foremost. It's not an accident she's a member of successful teams. She's a cause of it. Kooiman's reflexes are sharp and her lateral movements quick. She's smart and picks up on opponent tendencies, leading her to proper positioning against the attack. Kooiman tracks the ball well in serve-receive, and her serving is a strength. It feels like she has room to develop and get better, making her an attractive prospect for colleges.

Moyer was an important contributor for an Ankeny team that reached the Class 5A state semifinals in the fall. The junior registered 114 kills and 32.0 blocks in 85 sets. I scouted her a couple of times during the prep campaign. The first time happened at Iowa City West's Live Like Line Tournament and then again at the state tournament. She flashes explosive athleticism leading the current production and the potential for much more with further development. It was time to check in on her progress during the club season. Moyer posted video of her play on her Sports Recruits page. Competing with [program_tooltip program_id='555793' first='RVA' last='Roots'] 15 K. Palea, she's flashing impactful two-way play at the opposite pin. A big vertical leap and hang time allow for getting on top of the ball and powering it down. She gets off the court quickly to help neutralize the opposing block. It also helps her in throwing up her long arms as an obstacle for the opposing attack. Moyer has significant upside and is worthy of more attention along the recruiting trail.

Trout earned fourth-team all-state honors this past fall for a Center Point-Urbana team that took Mid-Prairie to five sets before falling in a Class 3A regional final at Wellman. She produced 219 kills (.253) and 44.0 blocks in 99 sets played. I've scouted Trout throughout the last few years but have not seen her yet this club campaign. It's been a good one. She helped United 17-1 Elite win the Iowa Regional Tournament, which came with a National Division bid to this summer's USAV National Tournament in Indianapolis. Video highlights on Trout's Hudl page bring us in touch with her talents. In watching her hammer out 32 kills in the regional at Mid-Prairie, there's a versatile attack with the ability to end points on the outside, from the middle or in cranking out a swing on the slide. She's strong defensively at the net, reading the attack well. Trout operates with a great tempo and effort, playing the game the way it was meant to be played.
