Waller uses it well to desposit balls all over the court. Waller earned an invite to the United States National Development Team as a result. Waller has a textbook five-step approach, extension and finish to terminate balls. Waller understands angles well, using them to hit balls hard off blocks and out of bounds for big points. She keeps her hips wide and gets on top of balls for outstanding power, especially on slides. Waller attacks seams and holes in double blocks relentlessly and places overpassed balls down with authority.

Martin (pictured) is a great six-rotation player for 16 REN. She has good range and makes the simple passes. Martin takes big rips from the outside and angles balls off blocks for huge points. Martin mixes in nice off shots. She is especially tough on slides.

A number of players this height often only play the front row so teams rotate them out of the game and back in. That's not the case with Heisig. She stays in the game and makes plays in the back row with her great range. Heisig has sound four and five-step approaches, strong extension and follow-through to terminate balls. She beats blocks with high attack points. She has tough crosses that paint side lines. Heisig has good timing on her hits to angles balls off blocks. Heisig attacks seams relentlessly and takes quality out of system swings.

Leathers does possess a sound approach, high attack point and solid attack speed. However, her defense is also valuable for 16-1 Christina. Leathers squares her body well to balls and keeps her feet aimed at passing targets, thus making crisp first touches. Leathers calls for balls then quickly gets into secondary positions. Leathers gets on top of balls to put great power into them and takes advantage of great spacing from the net. Leathers also takes hard swings from the back row. Leathers is also a solid solo and double blocker.

Moore gives the Bruisers a nice option at the net. Moore sends good off shots to the back row and executes powerful shoots. Moore tips balls off double blocks for big points and places overpassed balls away from opponents. Moore also does a great job reacting quickly on defense to keep plays alive.

Note from Writer

Mike Graham has been writing for Prep Dig for two years and has enjoyed getting to know the volleyball scenes in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee.
