About Emerson

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

As an outside hitter, I bring a combination of raw power and volleyball IQ that I've developed through years of competing at both the club and high school levels. My strong arm makes me a consistent offensive threat from the left side, but what I take the most pride in is my ability to read the defense before and during my approach — and use what I see to make smart decisions in the moment.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

A lot of my mentality on the court comes from growing up as the youngest sibling, you learn quickly that if you want to compete, you have to be tougher, smarter, and more determined than everyone else in the gym. I don't back down from big moments or shrink under pressure, and I genuinely love the challenge. That youngest-sibling mentality scrappy, competitive, never satisfied is what I bring.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am involved in my church youth group, and help with the middle school kids.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Given the opportunity to be team captain has taught me that leadership isn't just the coin toss, it's pumping teammates up, it's encouraging them to dig in, and it's setting a good example on and off the court.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My toughest challenge has been relocating in the middle of my middle school years. I had to learn to make new friends, learn a new community, and tryout and secure a position with a new volleyball club. It was really scary at first, but I've learned now how to adapt, how to put myself out there, and how to make the most of every move.
