Haertel passed Saturday’s middle blocker “endurance test.” During my coverage of last week’s Iowa Stock Up Showcase, I alluded to the fact that middle blockers are often outnumbered at showcase events. That was evident again in La Vista, but Haertel ensured that quality far exceeded quantity. This Elmwood-Murdock junior packed a ton of frontcourt heat in front of the setter and did not wear down with escalating reps. Her hard work also yielded plenty of positive block touches in team drills, allowing her fellow frontcourt terminators to find success. It was a complete array of contributions from Haertel at the Stock Up Showcase.

Elmwood-Murdock’s 2028 class is stacked. Haertel chipped in with nearly two kills per set from the middle and ranked second on the team in hitting efficiency. She’s an explosive leaper in front of the setter, giving the Knights a reliable in-system option in transition. Haertel’s influence persisted as a blocker, as she led Elmwood-Murdock with nearly 70 total blocks last fall. Her volume will skyrocket as her team looks for new go-tos in the frontcourt.
