Chloe Degroot Chloe Degroot 6'1" | MB/OH Benton Community | 2029 State IA is a versatile hitter who has the potential to work her way up in the rankings over the next few years. She is a predominant middle in both club and high school. With her height and the power she wields in her swing, it’s easy for her to turn heads. Not only does she work extremely hard in transition, but she also does a great job of adjusting to her setters and is always finding ways to be an option. Degroot is on an upward trend, and we are so excited to see how she continues to excel.

I’ve written often about Degroot while watching her compete along the club circuit in recent years. She’s developed her game nicely facing some of the nation’s top competition. Her team’s performance was among the most successful in the age group at the USAV Nationals this summer in Indianapolis. It was good getting a chance to see Degroot play for Benton during her school’s invitational tournament last month. Through the first 67 sets of the season, she’d produced 166 kills (.413). Her attack keeps improving, and the Bobcats would benefit from giving her more opportunities. Degroot is long-armed, tall and athletic, which helps her throw up an intimidating block and redirect plenty of opponents swinging her way. She’s one of the state’s top middles in the 2029 Class, and a college recruit on the rise.

Degroot does a fantastic job staying patient on her block, moving well laterally, and putting up strong hands. She always finds ways to adjust and score, and works hard to connect with her setters. I don’t doubt that she’s going to be a big contributor for the Bobcats.

Degroot has been one of the most improved players in Iowa’s 2029 Class during the last year. She’d taken a big step forward from the previous club campaign when I scouted her at the USAV Iowa Regional Tournament in late March. The Benton ninth-grader was a key player in CIA finishing third and earning an American Division bid to this summer’s national tournament in Indianapolis. Degroot is a physical presence in the middle of the net for CIA. It’s a power game on the attack, where there’s a heavy swing and efficiency. She reads the block well and is precise with her hits. Degroot has a good feel for throwing up the block, flowing with the play and getting into position to get her hands on the ball. She communicates well with teammates, which helps keep everybody connected and on the same page.
