Chloe is a setter who has some of the best hands we have seen from this class. She has stood out with her ability to not only run a fast offense, but contribute in other ways with her defense, serving, and court IQ. She shows advanced decision-making for her age, consistently making smart choices with tempo, location, and hitter matchups while keeping her offense balanced in all situations. Her hands are clean and consistent, allowing her to deliver accurate sets from multiple areas of the court, even when plays break down or passes drift off the net

She also does well with her serving and defense in a match as well. She knows who to target with her serve, and is capable of hitting zones to attack weakness in other teams serve receive. She also moves well, and shows good footwork in her defense. Being able to be a capable defender and get good passes on hard driven balls, along with picking up tips when needed as well.

Few players in the 2029 class made a stronger impression this season with the way she consistently stood out against quality competition. Her ability to perform at a high level in key moments, while continuing to expand her overall game, showed why she is viewed as a player with major long-term potential.

Chloe made a big jump from 55 to 38 in our latest rankings and a lot of that has to do with her growth as a all around setter. Chloe has a lot of great tempo with her sets when she is running the offense and has some of the softest hands out there with how nice the ball is placed when her team is in system. She can run a fast offense and can set all her hitters with great positional sets each play.

One thing that sets her apart and a reason she made a big jump is how well she does with some of the other things we need to see from a setter. First, she can still run a fast offense even when she doesn’t get the best pass in serve receive or defense. Being able to run almost all your hitters even when the pass isn’t perfect says a lot about the level of setter she is. She gets her feet to the ball with quick lateral movement and can use her great hands to get the ball where it is needed whether it’s a perfect pass or an out of system pass. She also can play some good defense and has some great reads as a defender to see plays before they happen.

We have seen a very steep climb by Chloe over these last 6 months as she continues to develop into a top level player. We don’t expect anything less over the coming season and look forward to watching her play this club season.

Chloe Johnson Chloe Johnson 5'10" | S/RS Casteel | 2029 State AZ is a name to watch this club season as she did extremely well in individual and team drills throughout the event on Sunday. I was impressed with her ability to put the ball where she wanted to in individual drills, connecting with her hitters on multiple occasions whether it was fast or a tempo set. Even when she was a bit out of system she was able to put the ball in a very high level position for her hitters.

On the other side of the coin, she able to do a lot more over just setting at a high level. She is also someone who plays very good defense and can serve well to keep another team out of system. She can do all 3 phases of the game and at a high level. She can serve, play defense, and run a high level offense. She is also fun to watch as she plays with a lot of energy and passion which is always a scouts favorite thing to see.

Chloe is a complete setter who can effectively control the tempo and flow of the match and demonstrated that by standing out with all these high level players. She is someone who is a high-ceiling athlete with excellent potential at the next level as she continues to develop over the next 4 years. I would not be surprised to see her shoot up the rankings over the course of the next few years.
