Holtzapfel runs offenses with a tireless amount of precision. She guides balls to the tops of her hitters’ peaks. Holtzapfel executes sound jump sets and back sets. She even betters balls when the team is out of system. Holtzapfel is on part with her first touches and sound serves. Holtzapfel can take big rips if needed.

Holtzapfel (pictured) showed she can be another great setter to come through the Ryle program. She took full advantage of her opportunity to set and ran a sound offense. Holtzapfel can nail marks with jump sets and performs back sets. She does a solid job trying to make the most of balls if the Raiders are out of system. Her versatility shows with quality outside swings. Holtzapfel also has tough serves and makes quality first touches. Holtzapfel had 264 assists, 51 kills and 90 digs in the fall, helping Ryle go 22-14, win a sixth straight 33rd District crown and go back to the 9th Region semifinals.

The coaching staff did not need to rush Holtzapfel into varsity action with depth at the setter spot. However, a big injury forced Holtzapfel into action and the freshman has delivered, making sure the Ryle offense does not miss a beat. Holtzapfel has a nice jump set and can perform a number of sets including back sets. Holtzapfel makes nice adjustments on balls that are out of system. Holtzapfel ran the offense with precision and took great swings on the outside. Holtzapfel makes nice serves to keep opponents out of rhythm and lands tough serves for big aces. Holtzapfel said playing for the TSE 14 Blue this past spring has helped her adjust because she played with similarly competitive teammates. Holtzapfel said she’s always ready to come in and contribute if injuries and other things occur. She had 24 assists in the Ryle win.

Clare is a quintessential player, she has it all. A very smart athlete who reads the court exceptionally well. She sets with ease and is quick and accurate, putting the ball in the pins hands for the best scoring option. Her backset is flawless, and she runs the court well and with thought! She can put up a nice block with good timing, can serve up aces and delivers a fantastic hit getting those kills! What an exciting prospect!

Holtzapfel has good instincts as a setter while also displaying a fundamental foundation in her transitions from defense to offense in how she prepares and pursues the ball. She keeps her hands simple to be able to get them up early where she can dish all locations with good tempo and accuracy as well as find her opportunities to score on the second contact herself.
