Athena 17 Gold posted a solid 2-1 record on day one, playing in the 17 American Division. Thompson is a dynamic athlete on the pin, and she delivered a highlight solo block in the team’s match against Red Rock 17 Katie. She can get up and over with her press and can abruptly roof an opposing attacker straight down. That same uber athleticism shows up when Thompson’s setters find her on fast-tempo attacks – she is up and hammering the ball before the block is set correctly. Athena 17 Gold will continue to chase the top bracket headed into day two.

Thompson was very impressive during the showcase and caught many of our eyes. The #2 outside hitter and #2 overall recruit in Washington for the class of 2026 used her height, explosive approach, and hammer of an arm to rip the ball and put it away consistently. She was also steady on defense and in serve receive, and from the baseline Thompson brought a nasty topspin jump serve.

Thompson is an all-around contributor for Athena 16-1 Gold and will be put to use as they compete in the 16 American division at USAV Nationals. She is long and puts this length to good use, contacting the ball at such a high point it is often over the opposing blockers. She has a whip of an arm and does an excellent job mixing up her attack location to find the open court.
