The accolades rolled in for Johnson in 2025. She helped last year’s South Central NE 15 Black crew reach USAV Nationals, but that was just the start. The Holdrege sophomore earned all-GJNC honors and carried that momentum right into the fall season with the Dusters. Johnson’s elite physicality and blocking technique catalyzed one of the best Cinderella stories we’ve seen at the state tournament. What will 2026 bring for South Central NE?

Could 2025 have been any better for Johnson? Her South Central NE 15 Black squad made waves at GJNC, landing Johnson on her division’s all-tournament team after a podium finish. Then, she guided Holdrege High School to the best Cinderella run of this year’s state tournament. The eighth-seeded Dusters earned a spot in the C1 championship match, putting Johnson on an even bigger platform for next year.

There’s a lot of credit to go around for Holdrege’s stunning tournament run. We identified Johnson as a player to watch after her all-GJNC performance with South Central NE, and this sophomore middle blocker did more than back up the hype. She took over the offense whenever she rotated into the match. Johnson hit 0.488 in Holdrege’s semifinal win over Omaha Concordia and also participated in four of the team’s five blocks. Her all-around game is constantly improving, which is a scary proposition for future small-town opponents.

Johnson transformed Holdrege’s frontcourt whenever she rotated in. This middle-opposite hybrid player was impossible for opposing blockers to track, as she could mix up her routes in any scenario. Holdrege captured everyone’s attention by claiming the first two sets over top-seeded Ogallala, and the Dusters finished the job in Set 4. We got our monumental upset of the quarterfinals.

An all-GJNC performer enters the state tournament picture. Johnson had an exceptional club season with South Central NE 15 Black, culminating in a climb to the podium in Dallas. This has translated to prep success with Holdrege and 300 kills to show for it. The Dusters may be the No. 8 seed, but Johnson makes them dangerous.

Let’s add even more physicality to the equation for South Central NE 15 Black. Johnson had an impressive prep debut with Holdrege High School last fall, racking up triple-digit kills and anchoring the team’s strong block. She has emerged as a lethal in-system terminator for 15 Black, particularly as the team marched to the Show Me Qualifier championship match. This will be a tough 15 Liberty field in Dallas, but South Central NE is ready to bring its rural roots to the big city.
