The big board remains stacked.

Nebraska has enjoyed its share of high-profile 2028 commitments since the recruiting window opened on June 15. We've had a few more since we last discussed these pledges. But we also can't forget that these major life decisions don't have a set timeline, and we're due for so many more recruiting storylines from Nebraska's rising juniors.

As we assess our latest Nebraska 2028 rankings update, we find several top-ranked athletes still on that life-changing journey. There's something for everyone here, too, with can't-miss stars occupying every position around the dial. Today's feature hopes to capture that variety.

These players will draw plenty of attention this fall, and that audience isn't limited to the local scene.

We've documented Janssen's meteoric rise in the Premier Nebraska gym. She got some early time in the spotlight while playing up a year, and this Gretna star is still climbing the age ladder in 2026. However, Janssen brought a new influx of range and firepower to Premier Nebraska 17 Gold that has propelled her recruiting stock to a new level. Her confident lefty swings were a showstopper at the Open level, and Janssen will readily adapt to any tempo behind the setter. This fall's championship pursuit with the Dragons will be must-see volleyball.

2026 was a banner year across the board for [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last='']. The Lincoln-based club provided some massive Great Plains representation at USAV Nationals, allowing us to see athletes like Janulewicz square up against the nation's best. The Grand Island Northwest outside hitter was one of Nebraska's most productive prep freshmen in 2024, amassing nearly four kills per set with the Vikings. We've seen similar output as Janulewicz battled to an Open berth with her [program_tooltip program_id='428743' first='VCNebraska' last=''] 16 Elite crew. It's the perfect setup for further prep gains this fall.

Wiig wielded her full array of frontcourt tools during [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 16 Titanium's national tour. We've seen the Lincoln Lutheran junior play various roles along the net with [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'], and AAU Nationals was an incredible microcosm of this versatility. Wiig took assertive swings in the middle and on the pin in Orlando, highlighting her willingness to take over in first-ball situations. Playing with one of Nebraska's top prep powerhouses will escalate that momentum.

We're due for some backcourt stars in this one, and Paneitz fits the bill from the [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] camp. The past several months have done wonders for Paneitz's visibility in the state's stacked 2028 class. She was a key factor in lifting Lincoln North Star to frontrunner status in Class A. Last fall's runner-up finish led to more breakthroughs with [program_tooltip program_id='428717' first='Nebraska' last='ONE'] 17 Black, which secured multiple podiums in the 17 USA division. Paneitz's high-level experience cannot be ignored.

Speaking of breakout performers on the Class A scene, we have to revisit one of Millard South's do-everything juniors. Jacobson packed some pin-to-pin heat as the Patriots enjoyed a renaissance in 2025. It's easy to get caught up in Jacobson's tremendous scoring numbers on the prep side, but that's not the only asset she offers. She is also a smooth setter from the back row, as shown through Jacobson's hybrid role with Club Legacy 16 Alpha. This was the team's anchor in every rotation and a big part of 16 Alpha's emergence in the GJNC field.

We have a whole host of South Central NE gems to discuss throughout the week. Johnson leads us off after constantly raising the bar with her star-studded 16 Black squad. This game-changing middle blocker upheld South Central NE tradition by hoisting a gold ball at the Show Me Qualifier. Johnson then slugged her way to a GPR Bid Tournament championship to upgrade that bid. It's only fitting that Johnson gained more postseason experience after leading Holdrege's Cinderella run at last year's state tournament.

Lightning 17-1 found any way possible to feed Mejstrik the ball. The Columbus Lakeview junior is technically a middle blocker, but she gets the kind of volume that puts her in outside hitter territory. She thrives with slower tempos on first-ball plays, often drifting toward the left antenna to open up attacking angles. As we reloaded her Great Plains Region Championships tape, we watched Mejstrik dominate at the net en route to a division title. It's no wonder why Mejstrik has been so terminal on the prep stage, and we expect a huge uptick in Year 3's output.

Palmer likely welcomes the opportunity to spar with Class A foes at Elkhorn North. The Wolves are making the much-anticipated move up the prep ladder this fall, and this middle blocker is well-equipped to handle the physical gauntlet. She soared as Elkhorn North's go-to middle blocker last fall, continuing a tradition of underclassman standouts at the position. Palmer's rise continued with Omaha Fusion, a diverse group of athletes who made a deep charge at USAV Nationals. The grind continues this fall.

Weiss just made one of the most dramatic climbs of any athlete in this rankings update. This Omaha Roadrunners standout took over the Nebraska Elite 16 Alpha backcourt during some of the team's best moments this spring. Weiss has also taken that skill beyond the club stage while representing the Great Plains Region All-Stars. No matter the venue, this agile defender has rocketed to prominence through some outstanding instincts and lockdown passing in the serve-receive pattern. Weiss still has further to climb, too.

The big board remains stacked.
