Spencer played all-around as an eighth grader at Wolfe County, evidenced by more than 100 digs and 100 hits. However, she quickly adjusted to the libero role as a freshman at Sayre. Spencer has improved at reading hitters then trying to beat balls to their destinations on the court. Spencer said facing older girls helped her mature quickly and knowing her Sayre teammates were there for each other also helped. Spencer finished second in dig with 285 for Sayre in the fall.

Spencer (pictured) has taken steps forward as a defensive specialist in the fall. Spencer can effectively backpedal and do overhead passes. Spencer makes the simple passes and lunges when needed to track down balls not far from her. She’s developing good range and improving her control. She’ll continue to find ways to better balls as the season progresses.

Spencer stays positive on the court no matter what, displaying great leadership. Spencer makes quality out of system passes. She delivers a sound spinning serve trying to key on the opponent’s weaknesses. Spencer can push balls to lines if needed. Spencer said the loud one on the court has an impact on the team. Spencer said if the one player wants it, everyone else steps forward. When that player is hot, they try to get another teammate into that same rhythm.

Spencer (pictured) had a fantastic game in her return from injury. She displayed good first touches and defensive intensity on the court. Spencer sent hard jump serves to the lines to keep Bryan Station out of rhythm at various points in the game, particularly the second set. Spencer is also very enthusiastic on the court. Spencer said the Spartans have worked together this whole season and could not overstate the importance of fighting for every ball no matter the circumstances. She added going hard after balls has become second nature for her.
