I always enjoy watching SMV teams.
Southern Minnesota Volleyball
is based out of Rochester and they seem to find really athletic and physical kids. Kenzie Van Been fits the bill where she is a really dangerous middle blocker. She is a 2029 playing up on the 16s team. She is one of those fast twitch middles where she has a fast arm that manages to find the deep corner. She is also smart on her offspeed shots, finding the open spots on the court. She preps at Triton High School with

Van Beek is a standout freshman middle blocker who proved her readiness for high-level volleyball this past school season with a varsity playoff run that brought them to the Civic Center in Rochester. Over the season, she became more aggressive at the net, turning her athleticism into important plays in big moments. Her blocking has even gotten more consistent, and she attacks with elevated levels of power and consistency. I anticipate she will carry this momentum with her into the club season and continue to make a huge impact.

Van Beek thrives in a fast-paced, high-tempo offense that keeps opponents constantly on their heels. Her ability to transition from defense to a quick attack makes her a dynamic threat, and she reads the setter’s intentions with an almost instinctual sense. One skill that stands out: her explosive quick attacks in the middle. Van Beek consistently finds seams between blockers, often turning seemingly impossible situations into points. Beyond her power, she also brings court awareness and hustle, making her a player who energizes her entire team every time she steps on the court.~Theresa @prepdigdakotas

brings a fierce level of competitiveness to the net. As a middle blocker, she thrives on going up strong and battling for blocks, showing solid timing and footwork. Offensively, her attacks to the deep corners are sharp and precise, making her a scoring threat in transition. What sets Kenzie apart is her coachability and relentless work ethic—traits that allow her to go toe-to-toe with older players and hold her own. She’s laying the foundation to become a key piece in any high-level system.

Van Beek is a rising star as a young, upcoming middle. She wows from the court as she is fast, has an explosive approach, and a quick arm swing. When her team is in system, you better believe the ball is usually coming her way and she is going to find a way to terminate. Van Beek is also a wall on defense. She uses her solid footwork and quick read to shut down opposing teams middles and pin hitters. Van Beek is one to keep tabs on as I believe this girl is just beginning to find her grove and will soon be a big name in the Minnesota volleyball circuit.
