We're wrapping up the weekend. Here are some impact players along with some pictures from our weekend in the Milwaukee area!

18s Finishing Strong, Warming Up For Nationals

April can always be an odd time for the 18s. Qualifiers are over, they know what their fate is for nationals. A lot of these athletes will be heading to prom, the struggle can be real when it comes to senioritis, and there can always be a challenge when it comes to staying locked in for a couple more months. These 18s were able to put on one last show in Wisconsin before they head to nationals in Reno in May.

Madtown 181 National took home the title after facing a fiery I AM VBC 16 Red team in the finals who beat the I AM 18s team in the semifinals. This Madtown team has athletes who are heading to the next level after successful high school careers. They may not have started together, but they finish together with the Madison area having a little bit of everything over their club careers. There was [program_tooltip program_id='431531' first='Capital' last='Volleyball Academy'], Sting United, and now their final strop at Madtown. [player_tooltip player_id='504459' first='Alaina' last='Kraemer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='388467' first='Mallory' last='Hartwig'] won a state title for Sauk Prairie this fall and I can see them having successful careers at the next level at Illinois State and South Dakota State. Hartwig will be joined by club teammate [player_tooltip player_id='388468' first='Hannah' last='Mlsna'], where the Jackrabbits have had great success with Wisconsin athletes. One athlete who still has one more year of high school is Wisconsin's top 2027 prospect in [player_tooltip player_id='345274' first='Lauren' last='Sprague'] who is committed to Notre Dame. She will look to lead Waunakee back to the state tournament. They will be competing in the National Division at nationals May 1-3 in Reno.

Watching SMV 16-1, it doesn't take long to take note of [player_tooltip player_id='737156' first='Elliot' last='Wirkus']. The six rotation outside hitter puts a hurt on the ball. She is a physical attacker with a violent arm swing. Even watching her warm up, her contact it just different. She was a key player for SMV where she found ways to score points by her go to power shots, but she always was able to swing out of the backcourt, the right side, and was a go to in and out of system. She is a sophomore at Triton High School and will be one to watch as an upperclassmen in the fall.

Daniela Richter of Madtown 171 Select stood out right away this weekend where she was able to score plenty of points for her team. She has a fast approach and is a high flyer on the pin where she is able to go hard cross or high line. The way she moves on the court is quick and smooth - she's efficient. Her performance was key for her team who would finish 2nd in the 17/18 Club Division. I can see her being a really key go to player for Edgewood out of Madison this upcoming fall.

The upside to [player_tooltip player_id='523205' first='Anndi' last='Frie']'s game is dangerous. The Class of 2029 outside hitter who preps at Dover-Eyota has plenty of length to her game. She has a high contact point that allows her hit a variety of angles and often times was going for the high hands on the block which made her tough to defend. There were also times where she was able to swing with top spin where the defense thought it was going out, but would land on the last five feet of the court. She was key in the SMV 15s 6-0 record, winning the 16s tournament title.

2030 has entered the chat and Francesca Wolf is a part of it. The middle blocker who plays for 1st Alliance 14-1 was so impressive with her performance this weekend at Madness in Miltown. Her ability to terminate on the slide was impressive. She was able to run a variety of tempos, showing great mobility and was dynamic with how she could impact the game. 1st Alliance always has well trained middles when it comes to their footwork and positioning. Wolf falls right in line and will be fun to watch as she enters the high school volleyball world.

Huron Valley 18 Blue made the trip over from Michigan and did not mess around. They took home the 17/18 Club title of Madness in Miltown. A key player for this team was Aubree Higgins. She is a six rotation outside hitter who played with such a spark of energy. She was really active with how she was able to swing big and score points. She was a go to player in and out system. What I was most impressed with about this team was the energy they played with. They would grab momentum and run with it. Higgins was a big part of this and was able to put an exclamation point on this win.

[player_tooltip player_id='744656' first='Zoey' last='Olesevich'] from Onalaska High School just outside of La Crosse was a key player to watch for this team.
She hasn't set foot in high school, but is already displaying a really mature game. Julia O'Keefe is the QB1 for 1st Alliance 14-1 who finished second overall in the 16s Division. At the 14s level, you don't see a lot of setters running a 5-1, but O'Keefe does it all. She can defend, set all the tempos, and can attack on the second ball. She will jump looking like she's going to swing and can dish a quick to her middle. The setters that have come through 1st Alliance speaks for itself, many have played college volleyball across the country. O'Keefe is next in line and is “setting” herself up for success.
