Kinner concluded another season for the ages for the Tigers. Also a sound basketball player, Kinner took more steps as a hitter this fall hitting from the back row. She landed many of them when Paintsville needed a big kill. Kinner is working on adding even more to those back row hits. Kinner controlled the net with her blocking and made nice first contacts, especially in the back row patrolling it with authority. Her low line drive serves also played a big role in taking Paintsville back to the region championship game.

Kinner has added on to her solid, versatile play this year with powerful hits from the back row. Kinner executes pipe plays well. Her mom and Paintsville head coach Dawn Kinner said they’re working on her to be effective with roll shots out of the back row. Kinner continues to smack balls hard on go routes and make mid-air adjustments to mix in soft touches. Kinner also patrols the back row with authority and makes things happen with her tough jump serve.

Kinner continues to improve her ball control throughout club season. Kinner eyes the floor well and smokes balls to the target. Defenders set up one place, only to see her send it to another spot. She angles her body in ways to carry her momentum away from blockers. Kinner has the experience to be an effective leader on the court. The Tigers will have a young team around her this fall, but Kinner’s mom in longtime head coach Dawn Kinner along with former Paintsville player Megan Taylor on staff hope to get them in shape so the team is clicking come postseason.

Kinner tops this list as a standout in both volleyball and basketball. Kinner has contributed for both sports since she was allowed to do so in the seventh grade. Kinner contributed 62 kills and averaged 11 points per game on the hardwood as a seventh grader. Those numbers have only grown now in her fourth year with both. Kinner has turned into one of the more dominant hitters in the state after recording 656 kills this past fall and her defense has drastically improved with 280 digs. Kinner also helped the Tigers win the first state tournament game in school history. On the hardwood, Kinner is averaging 22.6 points per game having to take on a leadership role as the young Tigers have seen three eighth graders play at least 21 games.

Kinner grew up in the gym, going to watch her mom coach the Tigers, who has been the head coach since 2010. Kinner put in the work to make an impact when she was old enough to play varsity in the seventh grade. She played a big role in Paintsville’s 15th Region title as an eighth grader with 253 kills, seeing her first state tournament action in addition to helping Paintsville win the All “A” State championship. Kinner’s defense and serving has really taken off since she entered high school. Kinner makes clean passes then quickly transitions to offense taking big swings to put balls down. She is also a positive influence for her teammates. Kinner has eclipsed the 1,500 mark for career kills with 1,557. Kinner had 656 kills, 280 digs and 69 aces, helping Paintsville go 26-12, win the 57th District and 15th Region crowns. She then helped take Paintsville win the first state tournament game in school history before losing to Scott in the state quarterfinals.

Kinner’s experience is paying off for the Tigers this year. Kinner is not only a fundamentally sound hitter for Paintsville using her size well, she’s turned into a versatile six-rotation player. Kinner can deliver crisp first passes and constantly stays positive for the Tigers on the court. Kinner is also a solid basketball player for Paintsville. Kinner had 13 kills and nine assists in the loss for Paintsville.
