Lovejoy are one win away from their fourth state title in five seasons after they overcame Fulshear in straight sets in the Division 5A semifinals. With the two teams having similar offensive productions, Lovejoy’s stronger defensive presence ended up being the difference for the Lady Leopards and Brand had a central role in it. The senior libero produced 22 of the team’s 53 digs, the highest production among the players that got on the court, and also contributed three of the team’s eight aces.

The starting libero for Dallas Skyline 17 Royal, Brand is one of the best in the position in Texas in her age group. She’s really hard to score on because of her outstanding ball control, which allows her to keep even the hardest-driven swings in play. Her excellent positioning also gets Brand very involved with several aspects of matches as she gets a lot of touches when covering her hitters or recovering balls on the back. Also a solid passer, the libero has a strong floater serve that often gets opponents out of system.

The 5’6” Brand will be another one with big shoes to fill taking over the libero position from the great Ava Camacho. The two did a great job playing together in the last season and now it will be up to Brand to keep the team’s strength on the backcourt. Based on the 363 digs, 505 passes and 45 aces she produced last season playing as a defensive specialist, it shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
