Mia Mathis Mia Mathis 5'11" | OH/RS Pike | 2027 State IN quietly assembled one of the more complete performances of the showcase. She was consistent with her good hand positioning and drove over the tape, took away attacking angles, and created playable block touches that allowed her defense to stay in system. Once the ball was dug, she immediately became part of the offense again, getting there on time in transition and attacking from a high contact point. Mia Mathis immediately stood out as one of the more complete athletes on the floor. Her explosive arm swing generated quality pace, but it was her athleticism and defensive presence that continually caught my attention. She covered significant ground, moved aggressively toward every ball, and remained active whether she was attacking or blocking. Her clean blocking mechanics and ability to stay involved from rally to rally made her one of the most impactful outside hitters throughout the session.

Mia has the length and natural power to be a legitimate weapon at the pin and as a member of the 2027 class she is entering a stage of her high school career where recruiting timelines accelerate quickly. We will be looking for key attributes from her that will be on full display in both the positional drills and the scrimmage portion of the event. With her recruitment window, the showcase is a meaningful opportunity for her to put her tools on display in front of a national audience of college coaches and scouts.  Her height and skill set combination speak for themselves in her ranking according to Prep Dig Indiana.  My eyes will be fixated on her to see if she has what it takes to move up that list. 

Speaking of heavy-hitting pin attackers, Mia is a prototypical athletic three-rotation outside that uses brute strength and her jumping ability to challenge all types of blocks she goes against. If the block is small, she simply goes over. If the block is bigger, she can power through undisciplined versions and tool off of high hands when needed. Springy and athletic, Mia is a nice three-rotation option for the next level that can terminate when coupled with a consistent setter.
