Expert Analysis

Capable of hitting from the middle or one of the pins in any situation, Ragan is a highly athletic attacker that has “hybrid” written all over her. I’ve seen her bury zero-tempo balls in club, and I’ve seen her go over pin blockers during high school; both actions result in regular points production for her respective squads. Over-six-footers in Indiana that can play more than one position well are rare—-Ragan is a prospect that is practically guaranteed to produce at the next level because of her well-rounded athleticism.

Now with Circle’s 16 Black, Ragan is a fast and athletic middle—-the kind you can teach something to once, and she gets it. That athletic acuity will carry her far in her recruiting process, and has already earned her a ton of eyeballs because of her success in a tough early schedule this spring. Although regionals this coming weekend will test her mettle against some of the best in the state, the coming month of her season will REALLY show what she’s all about.

The youngest listed in today’s article, Ragan showed out at our recent Exposure Tour back in December. Yet, those are controlled drills with just a touch of pressure. Sunday was a true example of what she’s capable of, and she held her own against solid 1s teams while being the M2 for Circle’s 16-2. Her athleticism and jumping ability were on display, and helped her squad to an upset win over PHP’s 16s in pool play. Yes, she’s more than capable of playing any of the front row positions, but to see her play at an equal footing with more experienced middles proves that the hard work she’s put in recently is starting to pay off. Prediction: Ragan will be an absolute steal for someone looking for athleticism in any attacking capacity in the fall of 2028.

Ragan was one of the more athletic kids we had at the Exposure Tour Saturday, showing out in all three front row positions. She’ll be tasked with playing middle for her club squad, yet is more than capable of playing either pin because of her amazing jumping ability and high attack point. Easily the top attacker at Pike, I’m looking forward to her play this club season and how much her hard work and athleticism will be on display against tougher competition.

I’m cheating a bit here, since I’ve seen her attack FAR more on the pin than in the middle, but hear me out. For a kid that can jump out of the gym, hammer away at unsuspecting defenses and do something positive with out-of-system plays, you’re looking at a kid who can play any of the front row positions, and do so at a high level. That’s more than good enough for me, and we’re about to find out how that translates to some of the best in the area on November 29.

Long, lean, springy, and having a whip for an arm, Ragan is a future pin attacker that can jump out of the gym and take over a match if you let her. Ragan’s athleticism alone should give most defenses pause—-anyone that can jump, swing and play like that can make some blocks look irrelevant.

If you are looking for sheer athleticism and speed, Ragan is your type of middle blocker. She had one of the higher block touches of the bunch and was able to absolutely roof some attackers to where covering the block wasn’t even a possibility. Ward’s leaping ability also gives her room to hit over the block sometimes, making her very difficult to defend, especially on the 1 ball. As of now I would say she is more of an M2, but she certainly has the ability to develop her attack behind the setter on the slide in the next couple of years. Ragan will be an absolute stud for Pike this year and I look for her to be a HUGE part of their offense, allowing her to develop quickly over this high school season. She is so fun to watch and is poised to be an elite player at the next level, so make sure to remember her name!

Athletic as anyone and with length for days, Ragan is a springy middle that’s new to club ball, but not new to the game. She uses her extensive length to go over blocks and uses her jumping ability to hang out for a while before she swings. Speaking of her armswing, it’s fast and whiplike, which is something you won’t have to train on her. I’d like to see a little more broad jumping from her when she attacks in front of the setter, but for now, getting to the setter on time and in-system is something she’s already figured out in her small sample size of club ball. Be mindful—she can hit high and deep to the corners or bounce a ball if you let her. With a little training, this kid will make heads turn in the next calendar year.

Quick to get up and quick to swing, Ragan is a raw and super athletic middle that is more than capable of terminating on strength and jumping ability alone. I’ve found that kids like Miss Ward are never set high enough, and the same rings true for Ragan. A springy M2, Ragan is just scratching the surface of her capabilities, as club ball is a new endeavor for her. For now, expect her to terminate on quick sets in the middle regularly, as her club training will allow her to learn more of her role on offense this spring.
