Austin Kingsley | Prep Dig Scout
This month’s Show Me Qualifier was a major inflection point for Bowen. She consistently stepped up for VCNebraska 17 Blue and brought the team to the cusp of a Gold bracket appearance in Kansas City. The Lincoln North Star junior wields her amazing length to hit over the top of any hands in front of her. Bowen has also enjoyed an expanded backcourt role and has dialed in her defense on the club stage. This ascent started with a state tournament trip last fall, and Bowen has not skipped a beat in the VCN gym.

VCNebraska gets another one. Bowen has shown an incredible amount of skill and finesse as 16 Black’s primary right-side hitter. Even when circumstances are not in her favor, Bowen can attack the right gaps to put opposing teams in trouble. Of course, this is also an opposite who can hammer away on in-system balls. The Show Me Qualifier was a momentous outing for 16 Black, and Bowen brought her best to Kansas City, too.

We’re sticking with VCNebraska for our next few entries. Bowen is next in line after boosting her stock with VCN 16 Black in early-season competition. She is separating herself as a dominant right-side hitter who can post double-digit kills in any given match. Her length and high contact point have presented tough matchups for opposing teams, particularly at last month’s ASICS Presidents’ Day Classic. Bowen doesn’t need in-system looks to get her kills, so 16 Black will frequently look to their right-side hitter to make the most of scramble plays. Opposites are finding their groove at VCN.

Get ready for more monster numbers from Bowen this year. She is becoming VCNebraska 16 Black’s hard-hitting opposite who will score when the team needs it most. Better yet, her length generates good block touches against opposing left sides, allowing 16 Black to set up its other hitters. An impressive runner-up finish at the Presidents’ Day Classic will propel Bowen and 16 Black toward repeated success in 2024.

The pipeline between Lincoln North Star and VCNebraska is still going strong. Bowen has emerged as a do-everything outside hitter for 15 Black who can make an impact regardless of rotation. She’s strong in the backcourt, serves aggressively, and makes savvy plays to better the ball. We saw all of that and much more as Bowen competed at GJNC.

There’s no way we could leave Bowen out of our watch list after recent late-season developments. She had so many clutch moments in the spotlight while VCNebraska 15 Black was battling for a bid last month. The team eventually snagged that coveted ticket, and Bowen’s stock should continue to rise at club volleyball’s most prominent venue.
