, a Class of 2028 setter and right side from Santa Fe High School and
Houston Stellar
16 Elite, is one of the more interesting two-way developmental stories in the Texas 2028 class because the volleyball journey she has been on tells you exactly what kind of athlete and competitor she is. She started as a middle blocker, transitioned to right side, and then committed fully to setting because it is her passion, and in her first two years running a varsity offense she has already earned First Team All-District honors and MVP recognition from her club team. A National Honor Society member competing against some of the toughest programs in the Greater Houston area, she brings the kind of academic and athletic discipline that college coaches look for in a player they are going to invest in for four years. Her footwork and release are developing through those real varsity repetitions and she processes the game with a maturity that comes from having played multiple positions and understanding what each one needs from the setter. Raylee is a 2028 prospect whose development arc is one of the more compelling ones in Texas. Please help us congratulate her on earning a spot on our Official Watch List.

Lawson is a high school standout with Santa Fe and plays club volleyball for Houston Stellar , setting for their 16 Elite team. We’ve been tracking her progress over the last few months, and her performance in the event showed that she continues to head in the right direction. Lawson was probably the tallest in our setter group on Sunday, and even though her height is definitely an important asset, it’s certainly not the only thing she has to offer on the court. She has great setting hands and is very smart with how she accelerates the game when in system. Lawson also indicated she can become an elite defensive player, displaying the levels of ball control and determination it takes to get there. The setter also stood out for her calm attitude on the court, which kept her level of play extremely steady.

Miss Lawson is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 Class according to our Prep Dig Texas State Rankings, but is on our official Watch List. She plays for Santa Fe High School and also plays for the Houston Stellar volleyball club. Not only was this young lady’s on court physical skill set proving that she belongs with the best of the best players at the showcase, but her attitude and personality truly shined as well. We loved everything that Raylee brought to the showcase so much that I chose her to be interviewed for a shout out on social media and cannot wait to edit and post it. As far as her setting is concerned, most will see her height and strong frame first, but true volleyball coaches will see just how athletic and technically sound she is with her form. Equipped with such great body control during her jump set, there were so many times when she held the opposing middle blocker at her base and not able to cheat toward any pins. Raylee definitely made me notice her and strongly consider her for placement on our State Ranking list when I update them. I will be watching her closely this club season to see if she can continue to progress. Please help us congratulate her on earning a Top Performer award for this showcase.

Lawson was the setter of the Houston Stellar 15 Elite team that finished in sixth place with three wins and two losses. Her setting was very accurate, even when she had to track passes well off the net, and she was always very good when setting against the flow of play. Lawson’s size made of her an asset at the net as she also took on hitting duties and contributed with her strong blocking. She also thrived on defense, displaying great positioning and superior ball control.
