Sampson’s offensive game plan was as methodical and straightforward as one would expect for a final as she heavily relied on Coleman and Thompson to score. The junior setter did a great job of not overloading her pin hitters and added a great deal of variation, moving them around very often and using many combination plays with each of them, which kept The Woodlands’ blockers guessing. Sampson’s sets were always accurate and she was calm the entire time. She also contributed some digs and did a good job from the service line.

Sampson and her MoCo Mavs 16 Red team will appear in the 16 USA division in Las Vegas. The club has opened recently and, as a setter, getting to work with an entirely new group of hitters while also having to develop chemistry with each of them can be a big challenge. Sampson not only handled this process well, but she’s also been able to make the team play at her pace in no time. A state champion with Grand Oaks, she has been in big matches and that helps her remain calm and make good decisions under pressure. Sampson also improved her defense on the right back position over the last few months as she continues to develop her game.

Sampson and her team MoCo Mavs 16 Red will be in action in the 16 Open division. This is a new club in the Houston area, which means she’s working with this group of hitters for the first time, but is quickly adjusting to them. Sampson won the state title with Grand Oaks less than two months ago and had an important role with the team. Her release is very clean and precise and she can set to every location with great precision. Sampson is also an asset on the backcourt, getting several touches on defense and creating problems for opponents with her serving. She always looks very calm on the court and displays a very high volleyball IQ when she needs to make split-second decisions.
