The culminating event for the CEVA club season is the Regional tournament. Taking place at the Portland Expo center across two days, hundreds of teams took the court to secure their final standing for the season. We were able to see some of the best athletes from Oregon and SW Washington compete and took note of the stellar performances we saw. We will be featuring those athletes who impressed us throughout the coming weeks.
Without further ado, here are the 2025 passers who had standout performances.
Arbow was a steady force in the backrow for Athena 16-1 at Regionals. She showcased a lot of improvement throughout this season and her play at Regionals was a testament to that. On defense, she is smooth and speedy. Very disciplined, she has become an incredibly reliable passer.
Azavedo was the anchor of the backrow for the Athena 16-1 team. As their primary libero all season, Regionals was no different. She was confident and consistent across two days of play. She has been crucial to their success; she reads the play as it progresses, makes quality defensive moves, and creates a lot of opportunities for the team to succeed. With some offensive weapons across the front row, Azavedo works to keep them in system.
Highlights
Carle took on a totally different role than previous tournaments and stepped up big time as the libero for OJVA 16-1 team. With injuries and illness, the team only had seven athletes able to play. They looked to Carle for steady serve receive and relentless pursuits on defense. Given that she has been running a 6-2, she had no problem putting up out-of-system balls up for hitters to swing away on.
Highlights
Comer was integral in the OJVA 16-2 team taking home the championship in the 16U division. She shines on defense with a quick reaction time; she keeps the unthinkable alive. She brings infectiously positive and competitive energy to the court, the ultimate hype-woman for her teammates.
Da Silva Corsi was a constant contributor for the PVC 18-1 team. Her play was crucial in the team tracking home the championship in the 18U division. Typically seeing court time as a defensive specialist, she showcases relentless pursuit, no matter the score. I watched her leap over a chair, diving onto the cement floor to save a ball. And she popped right back up, ready to dig another ball. She exudes grit. The hustle and energy she brings to the court are infectious.
Hildenbrand was a six-rotation force at Regionals for OJVA 16-1. Previously seeing court time as a defensive specialist/libero, with only seven healthy players, she was asked to play all around as a right-side hitter. Attacking, she flies and, with an explosive approach and a hammer of a left arm, can obliterate the ball. Her ball control skills are solid. She is incredibly speedy and scrappy.
Hilligoss has anchored the backrow of NPJ Portland 16-1 this season as their primary libero. Her platform and movement on the court are steady. She confidently runs the backcourt with fierce positivity and is a leader on this team.
Rapp has been splitting libero duties with 2026 Yana Tuioti Yana Tuioti 5’8″ | DS/L Sheldon | 2026 State OR this season with NPJ 16-1. At Regionals, she was vital in their success in finishing 10th in the Open division. She plays with a lot of composure across the back row. She is smooth when moving around the court to put up a solid pass.
Carmen Unrein
Carmen Unrein
Unrein led the COVC 16-1 team at Regionals as their primary libero. She is really quick on defense and makes great defensive moves to keep the ball alive. From the service line, she proves deadly with a tough float serve.
